Delta Goodrem is back in a big way. The singer, who is in Australia ahead of the release of her new single, presented her third album to a handful of industry insiders last week.

Here's the good news: her music was so impressive there was a real air of excitement in the room. Goodrem, who received a muted response to her second album Mistaken Identity in 2004, is on the verge of something big with her new set of pop songs.

There's no doubt the 22-year-old, who battled cancer, then went through the behind-the-scenes trauma of her parents divorcing, is an extraordinary survivor.

After the incredible success of her debut release, Innocent Eyes, which resulted in multiple ARIA awards and phenomenal acclaim, it must have been a tough comedown to realise Mistaken Identity didn't warrant the same reaction from fans.

The consensus is that the second album came too soon after Goodrem's illness (she herself admits the timing was too rushed).

Since then Goodrem has spent a couple of years in London, living with her boyfriend Brian McFadden.

Earlier this year she experienced a feverish resurgence in songwriting and, after teaming up with a tight-knit group of fellow writers including McFadden, Goodrem has re-emerged as a powerful talent.

She has already unveiled a sexy new look but the real proof of her renewal is in her music.

Her singing voice has never sounded stronger, the songs are energetic and infused with enthusiasm. There is a notable absence of over-dramatic ballads in favour of strong pop tunes, which will no doubt receive heavy rotation on radio.

Goodrem's first single, In This Life, will be unveiled on radio on Tuesday, then released for sale on September 15. There is no official release date for her album just yet but it's likely to be late October or early November. Insiders are tipping that Goodrem might make an appearance at this year's ARIA awards ceremony on October 28.

And don't be surprised if the singer drops her surname along the way - the inside word is she will simply be called "Delta" on the new release, but there is no official confirmation as yet.

im so excited that industry insiders love the songs and the album. i can tell this is going to be her best work yet and that she is going to gain so many new fans. i love her pop songs! this is going to be so awesome. plus more radio friendly, she can be the queen of radio.

worldwide smash!

Oh gosh... I'm starting to worry.. First she wanted to be sexy, now she's dropping her surname... I hope she won't become everything I don't like....

But if the people were excited... i wonder what kind of people were there.. they have a taste in music or they "swollow" everything that's pop...

So excited, apparently she has a new logo. Someone on the offical forum gets this insider music mag because he works on the radio and said it had the cover of the single on with new logo.

Change is good, as long as the music is wicked then I'll be happy. And it sounds amazing.

Really excited now. New website tomorrow as well hopefully with the video on.

This album is going to be brilliant!

MI was a good album.

Ugh no!!

I hate when artists drop or change there name!! lol

But this new album is sounding AMAZING and i haven't even heard a song yet!!!!!

Ooh can't wait for this,

I think MI was amazing though, my 2nd best album ever (behind Innocent Eyes lol!)

I really can't wait! I don't think it really matters if she drops her surname. There's noone else called Delta anyway, so it's not like she needs the surname to differentiate herself :).
