Fergie's "Big Girl's Don't Cry" stays atop the Australian Singles Charts for a seven week, now becoming only the second act this year to do so. The other was Hinder's January/February No.1 single "Lips of an Angel". With no foreseeable threat to the top of the charts for another couple of weeks, Fergie might retain the top spot for another week or two. She now beats her band's previous longest running single "Where is the Love", which was No.1 for six weeks from late August 2003, and "Big Girl's..." now becomes only the third song this decade to have spent 7 weeks at the top, the aforementioned Hinder, plus The Pussycat Dolls' "Don't Cha" from 2005. Fergie is the first female since Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker" (10 weeks from September 2006) to spend more than six weeks at the top.

The top 5 all move places this week, with Good Charlotte's "Dance Floor Anthem" going back to No.2 for a third time, whilst "Love Today" by Mika at No.3 and "When You're Gone" by Avril Lavigne at No.4 become new highest peak positions for both of those songs.

Kanye West has gained the highest new entry to the charts this week, as his new single "Stronger" debuts at No.8. The song samples the 2002 single by Daft Punk "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" (Top 60 peak), and is his fifth Top 50 single. Previously he has hit the Top 10 twice, with the No.1 from October 2005, "Gold Digger", and the April 2006 No.10 single "Touch the Sky". This is the first single from his forthcoming third album "Graduation", due out in September.

Two other new entries enter the Top 50 this week, but much lower down. At No.44 is the lead single to the sequel to last years tween-hit album "High School Musical", the song "What Time is it?" as performed by High School Musical 2 Cast. The original cast recording album hit No.1 last July for 3 weeks, spawning the No.13 single "Breaking Free".

Right behind the cast at No.45 is local Australian brother and sister duo Angus & Julia Stone, with their 4 track EP, "The Beast". Their debut album is due out in September, whilst they will be touring through October.

33 weeks ago, 2006 Australian Idol winner Damien Leith was spending his final of five weeks at No.1 on the Australian Album Charts with his collection of songs performed whilst a contestant on the show. Now this week his recorded studio album "Where We Land" debuts at the top of the charts, making Damien only the fifth Australian Male act this decade to have made No.1 on two occasions. The four other local-lads were John Farnham, Pete Murray, The Twelfth Man and former Oz Idol runner-up Shannon Noll, whilst no other Aussie Males have had more, so if Shannon's new album for later in the year does reach the top, he'll be wearing a crown that no other has yet achieved.

Damien was the last Australian Male to actually appear at No.1 back in December 2006, with only Michael Buble in May having been the only other male since then to have hit the top of the Album Charts. Damien is the 39th Australian Male performed album to reach the No.1 spot, and the 127th overall Australian Performer, whilst it's the 156th by a Male Performer.

The words of "Where We Land" have been to No.1 before, with 'Where' only hitting once before in 1997 when Hanson's "Middle of Nowhere" for two weeks, and 'Land' now lands at No.1 for a fourth time, having previously been used in "Graceland" by Paul Simon (27-Oct-86, 5 weeks), "Dreamland" by Black Box (17-Mar-91, 3 weeks) and "Fat of the Land" for The Prodigy (13-Jul-97, 1 week).

Darren Hayes' third solo album is a double album this time around, as "This Delicate Thing We've Made" enters the charts at No.19. His two previous albums have fared better, with his March 2002 debut "Spin" coming in at No.3, whilst his September 2004 follow-up "The Tension and the Spark" debut at No.8. Both of these albums peaked at their debut positions. The current single off this new album, "On the Verge of Something Wonderful" is currently sitting at No.38 after peaking at No.29.

In July 2006, Something for Kate debuted at No.1 with the album "The Desert Lights", giving them their second No.1 album. This week a collection of their tunes "The Murmur Years" debuts at No.26. The album is named after the record label Murmur.

This is a list of the No.1 albums in Australia for the past 42 years.
