Posted May 3, 200619 yr 01 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/5046786912.JPG HARD-FI - Stars Of CCTV Album commentary Despite being presented in October 2004 as a mini-album (only 500 copies were distribuited) it wasn't until late 2005 that I got to know "Stars Of CCTV". Based on the strenght of their only Top 10 hit "Hard To Beat", which caught my attention thanks to its inclusion on NOW That's What I Call Music! 61, the band started to grow on me and follow-up "Living For The Weekend" was never a disappointment. When December hit-single "Cash Machine" arrived to radios all over the world, I decided I couldn't wait anymore and grabbed my copy of their album. Not only I found the amazing singles on the album, but also fell in love with the other album tracks: the strenght of "Middle Eastern Holiday" and the mid-tempo mellodies of "Stars Of CCTV" or "Better Do Better" made get into the album more and more. Now we come to this day and the LP is still my current favourite among all the albums I listen to now-a-days. My current favourite track is "Better Do Better". 02 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9875384.JPG THE KILLERS - Hot Fuss Album commentary Yes! I still love it! This is one of those albums you cannot skip tracks, even when you get bored of the singles they transport you to the past and remind you of the beautiful memories each one led to, loving them again as a consequence (!) But this little masterpiece has a lot more to offer than 4 spectacular singles: album opener "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" is the perfect rock hit, meaningful lyrics at best and the greatest rock melody fusion to build one of the best songs ever made... to make it track 01 was the most intelligent thing they could ever done. The short but consistent "Andy You're A Star" comes as a minute tribute to ermm... Andy, lol... the catchy numbers "On Top" and "Midnight Show" turn everything up but you also get the most lovely songs: "Believe Me, Natalie" and "Change Your Mind" (the melodies only will bring you tears). The album closer couldn't be more perfect: "Everything Will Be Alright" comes as the typical long ballad at the end of a great album. My current favourite track is "Change Your Mind". 03 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KWCD34.JPG EDITORS - The Back Room Album commentary Do you take risks when you buy an album on the strenght of one single? Yeah, maybe! But a well taken risk if we're talking about Editors' "The Back Room". The album could well be catalogued as samey, but a good samey this time. All of the tracks follow the same pattern as singles "Munich" and "All Sparks", which is a very good think if you like the aforementioned track, because in spite of being very similar melodies the charm doesn't get lost. My current favourite track is "Blood". 04 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WIGCD162.JPG ARCTIC MONKEYS - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Album commentary It might sound stupid, but I love the fact that most of the tracks on this album are very short, why? Because the magic of each one of them remains intact. Come to think of it: if the same kind of songs were longer you'd get bored very quickly, a thing that doesn't happen here. With a lot of potential hits, including "Dancing Shoes" and "Mardy Bum" among others, the album shines itself... and don't forget it also includes the singles "Dancefloor", "When The Sun Goes Down" and "The View From The Afternoon". The three of them increase the quality of the album. My current favourite track is "Dancing Shoes". 05 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MADGECONFPRE.JPG MADONNA - Confessions On A Dancefloor Album commentary The best dance LP that has been released in years is delivered by no-one less than the Queen of Pop herself. The first single "Hung Up" alone gave us enough motivation to go running to the record store and grab a copy of this great work, then "Sorry", "Jump" and "Get Together" became instant favourites and to find out they would be singles was a reason to be even more excited. Apart from the aforementioned tracks, "Let It Will Be", "Push" and "How High" shine on the album, with remaining tracks (the weaker in my opinion) being nice additions and good listenings! My current favourite track is "Get Together". BONUS ALBUM http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/82876576442.JPG BRITNEY SPEARS - In The Zone Album commentary The Queen could not exist without her princess, and here she is in her own glory: Britney Spears. Despite being released 2 and a half years ago, the album still appeals to me. It's its diversity that still catches my attention and doesn't let me put it off! From the amazing electronic sounds of "Breathe On Me" and "Early Mornin" to the catchy rnb craze of "Outrageous", from the sweetness of ballads "Everytime" and "Shadow" to the classic pop anthem "Toxic", "In The Zone" fusions everything that's good and mixes it into an album that not only offers sexyness but also joy and emotion. Mission accomplished Britney! My current favourite track is "Showdown".
