Posted September 2, 200717 yr Why are so many young people still driving under the influence of alcohol? One in five teenagers has driven while under the influence of alcohol, a survey suggests. One in 14 of those questioned also admitted to driving after taking drugs. Charity Brake, which carried out the research with Co-operative Insurance (CIS), said ministers needed to act. It says the results add weight to calls for licences to be passed in stages and a zero alcohol limit for new drivers.
September 2, 200717 yr 1) Zero alcohol limit for ALL drivers not just teenage 2) Automatic life ban for ANY driver over the limit
September 2, 200717 yr I think the consequences have to be really bad. and they need to publically start making an example of people. I am 18, so teenage, and in the past 6 months that I have been driving, Ive only drank on my holidays and weekends when I know I will not be driving. And I find that easy, so dont understand why other people find it so hard. Edited September 2, 200717 yr by eek.Mikeyjosh
September 2, 200717 yr Consequences law enforcement don't work or rather it don't work for long. Making driving when 'under the influence of alcohol/drugs' uncool and not socially acceptable is the key.
September 3, 200717 yr consequences other than taking away license .... many drive without a license anyway so is no deterent. but doubt anything will stop teenagers believing they are invincible .....

September 4, 200717 yr The consequences of killing a car load of mates might effect them more than having their license taken away. I know that sounds horrific and harsh, but it is far more likely to happen if you are under the influence of drugs/alcohol. I would never dream of going near my car once I'm drunk. If I'm driving I rarely have one drink, let alone go over the legal limit. It is this idea that people think that they are invincible. I know someone who always drives once they've had more than a few pints. The excuses are endless "It's not very far". "I drive along this road everyday, it's hardly going to change". "I can't be arsed to get a cab and come back for my car". "I don't even feel drunk". "Are you saying I'm a bad driver?!" It's pathetic!
September 4, 200717 yr And we have vermin like Hilton and Lohan showing to chavs that drink driving is "cool" and that they will get away with it if caught :manson:
September 4, 200717 yr And we have vermin like Hilton and Lohan showing to chavs that drink driving is "cool" and that they will get away with it if caught :manson: Frankly no-one is going to be thick enough to believe that if Hilton can drink and drive, they can, and that's all peachy  All that can be done is perhaps some huge ad campaign - I can picture the tv ad now. Some 19 year old girl is in prison, crying and with blood-strained hair. A mean male voice booms 'Precilla was stopped for drunk driving. Think, don't drink.'
September 4, 200717 yr And we have vermin like Hilton and Lohan showing to chavs that drink driving is "cool" and that they will get away with it if caught :manson: Spot on Craig.. If these "people" (and I use the term loosely here...) are seen to be getting away with it, as well as the associations with glamour and the Hollywood lifestyle that those two exemplify, then naturally your typical below-average-intelligence Chav who reads about these vermins' exploits in "Hello" or "OK" is gonna think it's well cool behaviour to emulate and that there seem to be little or no consequences to doing it.. I think it's high time to come down and come down HARD on the likes of Hilton, Doherty, Lohan, George Michael and Mel Gibson, and then people will finally get the message that Drunk or Drug driving is not cool, and not glamourous.... I would say life bans from driving, 10 year prison sentences WITHOUT parole and enforced drug rehabilitation in the Prison hospital would be the right message to send to these scumbags.... Sounds harsh..? I dont give a sh!t, people are getting killed on our roads by these sorts of drink driving scum, the fatality statistics are frightening. If they'd shot or knifed someone, it would be murder or manslaughter, and 25 to Life in prison, simple as....
September 4, 200717 yr Frankly no-one is going to be thick enough to believe that if Hilton can drink and drive, they can, and that's all peachy  Gotta disagree mate, there are plenty of thickos out there who do seem to think the behaviour of these idiots is well cool.... Just look at the people on this very site who defend the likes of Hilton to the hilt....
