Posted September 4, 200717 yr 'Myths Of The Near Future' triumphs Klaxons has won the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize. 'Myths Of The Near Future' was crowned as the best album from this year's 12-strong shortlist at the ceremony in London this evening. The band - tearful from their surprise at winning - took the stage and the £20,000 winners check before delivering a chaotic thank you speech. "This really is too much declared," James Righton, while bandmate Jamie Reynolds added "It was the worst two hours of our sitting there not knowing if we'd won. It means so much." He added: "Mercury is about pushing music forward and that's what we've done. It great that people have recognised Righton also explained they had been motivated by last year's winners Arctic Monkeys. "A year ago we were in the studio making this album and we were sitting in the studio watching Arctic Monkeys win this," he said. "We saw that and thought we have to make a new album." Speaking just after leaving the stage Simon Taylor explained the band were "stunned" to have won as they paid tribute to fellow nominees Bat For Lashes and Amy Winehouse. "None of us can really comprehend what has happened this year," concluded Righton. "We started as a joke and now here we are!" Source: NME.com
September 4, 200717 yr Not suprised lol it was the best album on the list Edited September 4, 200717 yr by J♦Ñη¥
September 4, 200717 yr Author Not suprised lol it was the best album on the list I dislike their album personally. I thought it would be ace, but it wasn't. Amy, Arctics or Jamie T should have won in my opinion.
September 5, 200717 yr What a shambles :o I heard the Klaxons album, and i thought it was all samey. I agree, it should have been Amy, Jamie or Monkeys <_<
September 5, 200717 yr i m glad they did...very good album...like it or not at least it doesnt sound like most brit indie c**p bands these days btw, in my opinion: 1)artics 2)amy 3)klaxons
September 5, 200717 yr I applaud Alex Turner for telling it how it is (on Radio 2's Radcliffe & Maconie show, just now pre 9PM via phone - proving that he is a legend in the making on a par with John Lydon, Morrissey, Noel Gallagher & Jarvis Cocker): "The Klaxons winning is a bit like when M-People won" (when they beat Radiohead's OK Computer in 1997) "The album sounds alright, but the songs are a bit samey" "Amy should have won it easily hands down, but they (the judges & sponsors - Nationwide Building Society) don't want to give it to her because of all her problems as it would send out the wrong message.." As for the Klaxons claims that they deserved it "It's a bit rich calling Amy's album retro sounding, then claiming to try to produce something that feels like it came from the future. When it's your album that contains a f***ing cover of a 10 year old dance track".

Ther Mercury Prize is an awar about music after all and not about people's personal lives. So what if she dabs in drugs? Most acts have dabbed in drugs in some way, shape or forum during their career (I know for a fact Klaxons have) and just because Amy's has been in the media of late for all the wrong reasons it doesn't mean that she's made a bad album that's not deserving of this prize. And Alex's comments comments about the Klaxons album are a classic and completley true, it's very rich to have a pop at someone else's album that sounds a bit retro when they're the ones that have actually used a track that's over a decade old!
September 5, 200717 yr He said they were Samey, just like me. My claim to fame :magic: But he is completely right though :D
September 6, 200717 yr i still believe that klaxons album is very good...but i totally agree with his comments about Amy
September 8, 200717 yr Author On the TV coverage Arctic Monkeys played Teddy Picker as their track, which seems a bit strange as you'd have thought they'd have played Old Yellow Bricks right? Maybe Old Yellow Bricks won't be the next single after all. :o
September 10, 200717 yr Author Here's the video of Arctic Monkeys saying what they think about their nomination: http://www.dailymotion.com/Arctic-Monkeys-...rize-2007_music I think Nick kinda makes a bit of a prat out of himself in this video! :(
