Posted September 6, 200717 yr teletext say Sanctuary to close Sanctuary's record label is to close, after it was bought by new owners. Universal, which also owns Polydor and Island, bought Sanctuary for £44.5m last month. It has decided to focus on Sanctuary's more profitable management and reissue divisions. The British label is home to Marc Almond and The Charlatans. Its American label, which includes Brian Wilson, is unaffected by the decision. no surprises there then seeing as Sanctuary's been losing loads and loads of money and that U has got W14 Records for heritage acts and Sactuary has been moving away from this demographic to embrace indie acts like Idlewild that have come out of major label contract
