Posted on 9/2/2007 by Maroon5 hi everyone... i mean... bon jour everyone... here we are in paris... it's almost night time here, and all is well from this hotel room window... i just ate a banana. that's all the news i've got. no... wait... i mean... we also just played an acoustic show at an aquarium... in front of a giant wall of glass that held back schools of tuna and some tiny sharks... I wished for a dramatic action sequence where a crack would slowly spider web out and at the downbeat of the last song 60 cubic tons of water and sharks would come pouring out onto us and the crowd... a mass drowning... album sales would skyrocket... but no... nothing exciting happened... except for the kick ass performance... it was really fun... and i love paris... there's a song about that... ever heard ella fitzgerald sing it? cole porter wrote it... I love Paris in the springtime. I love Paris in the fall. I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles, I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles. I love Paris every moment, every moment of the year. I love Paris, why, oh why do I love Paris? Because my love is near. So true... which reminds me of an expression that our good friend Christopher Wray McCann just told me when we randomly met up with him in Madrid... he was on a business trip in Barcelona but had some days off just when we happened to be nearby in Spain... This expression comes from Mexico... and it is about the Trilogy of Happiness... and that is the term that refers to the three things that you need to have to be happy... and it goes like this... You are Happy if You Have: Something to Do Someone to Love and Something to Look Forward To. Ok... so... good luck to us all... what's new...? today is Sunday... i hope you feel rested. We love you... We're almost done with this european trip and then it'll be home to Los Angeles to get ready for the tour... THE TOUR!!! the tour... it won't be soon before long... time flies doesn't it? crazy. it feels like so long ago that we were posting about the new album coming out... and now here we are almost ready to start the first big tour that we've done since the start of 2005... crazy... Thanks for your submissions so far for the Won't Go Home Without You video we're making... keep em coming in... spread the word. gotta run... peace. you look GREAT today, by the way... (i mean... probably) love, jesse. Edited September 6, 200717 yr by Irene
September 9, 200717 yr I don't read the tour diary, so it's news to me. I am a member on that site, though..I think..
September 10, 200717 yr Author what does Deep Ecology even mean? Posted on 9/10/2007 by Maroon5 happy sunday... once again... time is so weird... here these two posts are back to back but separated by a week... an objective number of seconds... (604,800) but sometimes it can feel like a month... and sometimes it can feel like a day... this is what i wanted to write today... an question from the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess... "The essence of deep ecology is to keep asking more searching questions about human life, society, and Nature as in the Western philosphical tradition of Socrates.... For example, we need to ask questions like, Why do we think that economic growth and high levels of consumption are so important? The conventional answer would be to point to the economic consequences of not having economic growth. But in deep ecology, we ask whether the present society fulfills basic human needs like love and security and access to nature and, in so doing, we question our society's underlying assumptions. We ask which society, which education, which form of religion, is beneficial for all life on the planet as a whole, and then we ask further what we need to do in order to make the necessary changes." (from Deep Ecology: living as if Nature Mattered, by Bill Devall and George Sessions) love, jrc.

Downloading Radiohead's album today was exciting. Seeing a new way for a band to distribute an album is exciting. Check it out... pay whatever you feel like paying for this album... www.inrainbows.com Hearing about a federal court in minnesota ruling that a mother has to pay around 9,000 dollars for each of the 24 songs she was found guilty of illegally downloading is not exciting... it's depressing... Our show last night at Madison Square Garden here in New York was exciting. rain falling is exciting. The Road, the book by Cormac McCarthy is more than exciting... it's an entire world in a book... like no other book... and it's disturbing and inspiring... and it is stressful, but it's very believable... and even with all the terribleness, in the end it's very beautiful. A great metaphor for all of our lives... trying to find the good within and without. And Sara Bareilles' song Many the Miles is exciting. And friends and family and strangers and coincidences and communication and regret and violence and mistakes and learning and overexerting and relaxing and eating and sleeping and loving and the push and the pull and acceptance and protest and losing and finding and not minding and caring and sharing and repairing and staring and looking the other way and looking up and out and in and stretching and waiting and taking and giving and making and faking and rhyming and shouting and crying and kicking and screaming and accidentaly not meaning and taking it back and repeating and reading and seeking and breathing are all very exciting. good night... jrc

It's three in the morning... I'm fresh back from Esalen ... an amazing place up in Big Sur where people have long gone to either be rejuvenated or to die... and I didn't die... so... First things first: right now I'm listening to the new album by Johnathan Rice ... so classic... recorded here in LA by great soulful inspirational musician human beings... what do you think? Second: speaking of inspirational... my friend who teaches dance to 10-12 year olds got a visit today at the school by a group of people who had just finished a walk across the United States... 4000 miles by foot to help spread the idea of peace and hightened consciousness during these precarious times... can you imagine a walk like that? it took them exactly a year... and here's a website to check out what they did... http://www.theillumination.tv/ Third things third: Happy Early Thanksgiving... and a request for some brainstorming help... I know that as everyone looks around at the state of the world these days people see different things... have different perspectives and priorities... and I want to hear how you see it. Here's a quote from Robert Kennedy that he used during his 1968 run for president (before he was murdered like his brother John five years earlier) that pretty sums up what I think a lot about... "There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" And here's the brainstorming session... If you had Thirty Seconds of a TV commercial...what kind of idea would you want to share with the people of your country... and how would you go about getting that idea across? thanks for everything. jrc

The first thing I want to do is say that I hope we can all agree that there are some very sad and scary events taking place in the world right NOW. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan... Civil wars and genocide in Africa... Increasing poverty and economic recession as well as decreasing education and health standards in the United States and many other countries.,, And all the while a near constant stream of fear based propaganda is being churned out by major media outlets around the globe. What is happening? What is it all pointing towards? If you say, “Nothing, it’s just human nature to fight” or ‘That’s the way the world works... Life isn’t fair” then most likely you are probably just unaware of events in the past that prove that very often a small group of people are responsible for large scale human events such as war, economic fluctuations, presidential elections, assassinations, as well as the shockingly corrupt creation and manipulation of religious institutions. However, I don’t feel like I can explain this idea as well as the film, so I am literally BEGGING you to watch this movie AS SOON AS POSSIBLE... and then to spread it TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. I do want to say that as with anything that someone is telling you, including this blog, this movie should be watched with a degree of skepticism. However, the main point of the film is to encourage independent thinking... and no one should be opposed to that idea. I am struck right now by this feeling that time is of the essence. I am imagining that I am a citizen of Germany pre-World War II and that I have just been given an outline of the terrible destruction that my patriotic and popular president Adolf Hitler is about to unleash across Europe, and also the ability to do something to stop it. Never before has there been a time when people can quickly share ideas across the entire planet like they can today. The most important thing right now is the education of the average citizen of whatever country you’re in. We need to learn from the tragedies of the past. The drama of a powerful minority controlling and oppressing the uninformed majority has played itself out over and over... usually ending on some small level temporarily by some sort of violent revolution. But right now we have the power to stop the bleak (and unfortunately, totally believable) future that this movie predicts before it happens by raising enough awareness in the general population to prevent the powerful minority from pursuing their selfish, corrupt, and arrogant desires. Go watch the movie and then check the sources for yourself online and learn how to get involved in the Activism section of the website. http://zeitgeistmovie.com Thanks for your time and your optimism and your love. jrc

These european shows have been great. We've all been having a lot of fun playing for everyone that has come out to see us play... so thanks for coming. Happy holidays everyone... If anyone is looking for a good way to give a gift in someone's name that can help someone else out... please check out this site... https://www.oxfamamericaunwrapped.com/ good luck everyone. jrc. December 16, 200717 yr Author be good for goodness sake... Posted on 12/15/2007 by Maroon5 christmas carols are so great... I'm listening to ella fitzgerald's swinging christmas carols album right now... we're in Munich... it's pretty and cold... pretty cold. It's so strange when words you see and use all the time suddenly look so weird... pretty... it sounds like it should be spelled pritty... or pronounced Preh-Tee... OK... so the main reason i wanted to post tonight was to share a video that my dad just sent me... it's only twenty minutes... less than the two hours of Zeitgeist... (although, you really should watch that movie too) And if you've got the time to spare, just watch it... right now... and then share it with people who might not be aware of the issues the movie points out. Please!!! calm. ok... calm. The movie is called The Story of Stuff... check it out... http:// www.storyofstuff.com But wait... maybe there needs to be some incentive... (other than the fact that unless people actively continue to spread awareness things could get to such a precarious and irreversible place that environmental disasters and wars of desperation will cause the death of millions... that's the incentive that works for me... what works for you?) and then again, maybe incentive is the wrong word... balance is a good word... Yes, balance... So i've decided that for every video I post that's aimed at changing things for the better (which probably involves some kind wake up call style information that makes you so upset about the way things are that you just have to Do something to help) I'm also going to just post a feel good and laugh and celebrate video. Today's sense of balance is brought to you by Ryan from the band Guster and his dog Jerry. Click to laugh... and then click the Story of Stuff to cry and get righteously motivated. Thanks. jrc Edited December 16, 200717 yr by Irene
January 30, 200817 yr Author http://community.maroon5.com/images/local/150/cd1f5ebf-5bcf-4aff-88b2-fac09a68cc7e.jpg that's all folks Posted on 12/20/2007 by Maroon5 that's all for now... We played our last event of the year today on a German TV show here in Koln. Now I'm listening to the nutcracker suite and thinking about LA time and jet-lag... so tired... oh... well... Here are todays two balanced items. One is an e mail i got from Moveon.org about the consolidation of independent media outlets into bigger and bigger corporations... which means that individual companies won't be able to decide for themselves what kind of content to put on their news reports, or what kind of music to play on their radio or music video stations because all the choices will be made by a small group of people who own the giant corporations... and that's not a good thing for diversity, free speech, or open-mindedness. So please click on this link and sign a petition saying that you oppose such takeovers. http://civ.moveon.org/mediaconsolidation/?...=comment_mailto And then relax with an amazing video of a piano playing cat... Hope you're having a good day. Hope you're not feeling stressed about the Holiday season. Have fun. Enjoy. Love. jrc

This is from a book called Light on Life by B.K.S. Iyengar... "The life of a householder is difficult, and it always has been. Most of us encounter hardship and suffering, and many are plagued by physical and emotional pain, stress, sadness, loneliness, and anxiety. While we often think of these as the problems caused by the demands of modern life, human life has always had the same hardships and the same challenges- making a living, raising a family, and finding meaning and purpose. These have always and will always be the challenges that we humans face. As animals, we walk the earth. As bearers of a divine essence, we are among the stars. As human beings, we are caught in the middle, seeking to reconcile the paradox of how to make our way upon the earth while striving for something more permanent and more profound. So many seek this greater Truth in the heavens, but it lies much closer than the clouds. It is within us and can be found by anyone on the Inward Journey." I hope you're having a good day. Love, jrc
