Who do you feel has been underated or overated in this list?

I don't think this list is based purely on Guitarists skill and it is biased/ overates more well known players.

 

For instance below is a video of Sum 41's/ Brown Brigades guitarsit Dave Baksh who is 51st, surely Kurt Cobain couldn't play anywhere near as good as this yet he gets to number 14 on the list... <_<

 

 

Kerry King from slayer is to low aswell, especially when you see the '3 power chord talent' that is Tom Delonge at number 43. :rolleyes:

Im a big fan of Joe Perry, his guitar skills always impress. Great to see that not many '21st Century Indie-Band-Players' have made the list, I mean, it's not like any of their riffs inspire/amaze anyone. A 5 year old could put 5-guitar chords together and play them.

I agree, most indie guitarists are alright and can play good riffs but if they where really something special they wouldn't be playing guitar in an indie band.

They've but Jeff Haneman and Kerry King apart from eachother when they're basically at an equal ability on the guitar...

The list's a bit of a joke, as you've pointed out, Kurt Cobain and Tom Delonge have no business being on there as technically they are both poor... This certainly has not been 'exhaustively researched' to any degree at all, Emperor guitarists Samoth and Ihsahn are both incredibly talented musicians (as are a lot of extreme/black metal guitarists) with a quite astounding technical skill, but because Emperor are a little-known Norwegian Black Metal band, they do not appear on the list... No sign of the incredible J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) either, without whom Grunge/Indie Rock (and come to think, Nirvana themselves...) wouldn't exist, or Joey Santiago (Pixies) or Lee Ronaldo (Sonic Youth) or Robert Smith (The Cure) or Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) or Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) or Sterling Morrison (Velvet Underground).. Frank Zappa (who was really a pretty fukkin' AMAZING guitarist), Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King deserve to be a lot higher as well....

I don't think Prince counts as a guitarist, he's certainly not the most talented one. :lol:

good to see hendrix getting the recognition he still deserves.

This list is as generic poor as the average Q list.

 

As mentioned before where are Prince, J Mascis, Stone Gossard or Joey Santiago.

 

Whilst the usual suspects Kurt Cobain, Brian May, Slash, Eric Clapton & George Harrison are way too high.

 

Whilst Nile Rodgers, Neil Young, John McLaughlin, Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa, Peter Green, Johnny Marr & Rory Gallagher are far too low.

 

As for Jimi Hendrix winning - well he was gifted, but he did too frequently result to too much show boating with his guitar histrionics for my liking (and I've heavily criticised 1990's Diva's for the same thing).

 

Personally I prefer emotional expressive guitarists hence my two favourite guitarists are Dave Gilmour & Jimmy Page.

well that caught the eye of the people filming him, it wasnt always like that. id suggest that a disproportionate amount of footage concentrated on his antics and not on his normal playing.
