Kurt Cobain was'nt that amazing at guitar, it is his songwriting that is special.

I don't think of him as a guitarist either, he was a better songwriter.

Whereas Dave Grohl is spectacularly good at everything. The mainstream underrates him but I think he likes it that way,

Hi !

I think Buckethead, whose song "Soothsayer" is n°13 on AURFEE, has been forgotten. It is a pitty because this is a very good guitar player, may be one of the best ever !

See you

I would imagine that if this list were done again today Jack White would be far higher up. In the last five years we've had a second Raconteurs album, one from the Dead Weather and "Blunderbuss". None are classics but his reputation has only grown. Matt Bellamy would probably be top 20 by now as he's seen as today's only old-school "guitar hero", I'd imagine they'd cave and stick Dave Grohl in somewhere lower down as well.

Personally i think Mike McCready from Pearl jam should have been higher.

I never though Jimmi was that great his guitar was always overly distorted and sounded like it needed to be tuned. His rendition of the anthem was a crap shoot too

Not at all, it was a calculated statement on the USA and it's policies on Vietnam, Civil rights etc. It was deconstructed very deliberately and is an iconic moment in Rock history.

Also using a distortion pedal doesn't make you a bad guitarist and as for out of tune. Seriously?

I don't think this list is based purely on Guitarists skill and it is biased/ overates more well known players.

For instance below is a video of Sum 41's/ Brown Brigades guitarsit Dave Baksh who is 51st, surely Kurt Cobain couldn't play anywhere near as good as this yet he gets to number 14 on the list... <_<

Kerry King from slayer is to low aswell, especially when you see the '3 power chord talent' that is Tom Delonge at number 43.

More of a "rock popularity contest" I think. Lyndsey Buckingham is an astonishing guitar player, and people outside rock are almost competely absent. Glen Campbell for instance, well regarded and hired as a session player long before he hit pop country big time.

Jimis style might not be for everyone, but you cant deny he was extremely talented and skilled with his instrument. Not really my favourite kind of music but the guy was an absolute genius with a guitar.

The guy from Sum 41 is one obove Jeff Hanneman from Slayer. Someone is having a laugh there. Randy Rhodes really needs to be in that top 10.

Couldn't agree with you more there. Jeff Hanneman is thoroughly underrated and Rhodes was a legend in his own lifetime

I imagine he's been mentioned, but there's a large J Mascis-shaped hole in that list as well. He's guitar work is incredible.

Steve Vai deserves so much to be in the Top 10. I listened stuff of his solo career and he is great..

Well, looks like we need a top 200 guitarists.

Like someone said, where is Buckethead? JJ Cale? Nils Lofgren?

I say where is Alan Holdsworth? Mike Keneally?

And Adrian Belew? Where is he? He played for Zappa, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Paul Simon and David Bowie etc

David Bowie genius practically stole him off another genius called Zappa. That's enough evidence for him to be up there.

This list is ridiculous. I know I know, it's all subjective. But a top 200 is needed. Too many missing :)

To be fair, it is 11 years old now. :P
