Posted September 10, 200717 yr An out-of-shape, out-of-touch Britney Spears delivered what was destined to be the most talked about performance of the MTV Video Music Awards — but for all the wrong reasons. Kicking off the show Sunday night with her new single, "Gimme More," Spears looked bleary and unprepared — much like her recent tabloid exploits on the streets of Los Angeles. She lazily walked through her dance moves with little enthusiasm. It appeared she had forgotten the entire art of lip-synching; and, perhaps most unforgivable given her once taut frame, she looked embarrassingly out of shape. Even the celebrity-studded audience seemed bewildered. 50 Cent looked at Spears with a confused expression; Diddy, her new best friend, was expressionless. Some comeback. from yahoo
September 10, 200717 yr Author After weeks of buzz, Britney Spears kicked off Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards at the Palms in Las Vegas in a sparkly bra and briefs with a club-ready performance of her latest song "Gimme More." The singer, who reportedly worked with illusionist Criss Angel on the act, lip-synched to the song as women cavorted on stripper poles amid a flashy red background. The song comes in advance of Spears' as-yet-untitled record due in stores Nov. 13. The pop star has a history of dramatic performances at the VMAs – including kissing Madonna and dancing with a live snake – but this year's performance seemed more low-key and certainly less eye-popping. And at least one review was in almost immediately. Following Spears's performance, comedian Sarah Silverman offered her sarcastic take. "Was that incredible? Britney Spears, everyone," Silverman said. "Wow. She is amazing. She is 25-years-old and she's already accomplished everything she’s going to accomplish in her life. It's mind blowing." Before the show, many artists weighed in on Spears's comeback. During MTV's official pre-show, Mary J. Blige wished the beleaguered pop star all the best. "I absolutely think Britney could make the comeback," Blige said on the telecast. "Someone who's been through as much as she's been through – you just want her to win. I know I want her to win." from People
September 10, 200717 yr Author nationalledger Britney Spears MTV VMA Video: Lip-Synching Train Wreck Online Britney Spears showed up in Las Vegas. That may have been a mistake. The highly anticipated return of Britney was an absolute disaster. Britney showed up in some sort of a bikini outfit and lip-synched part of her latest "Gimme More." She was stumbling, missing cues and apparently has lost any ability she once had to dance. At one point during the song she literally gave up lip-synching and just stood there. It was an absolute disaster. Gimme more turned into gimme less very quickly.
September 10, 200717 yr That's great. I REALLY don't want to be reading through all the bad press in the next few days... :(
September 10, 200717 yr On the bright side there are 3 more award shows coming up, Billboard, AMA's, and Radio. Maybe she can do it well at all of those?
September 11, 200717 yr That's great. I REALLY don't want to be reading through all the bad press in the next few days... :( Me neither. I feel really bad for her right now. :(

September 11, 200717 yr will they want her? :( I think that's the key question here. On the one hand, everyone is talking about the VMA's because of Britney (but for all the wrong reasons). Therefore, maybe other shows WILL want her because she obviously caused a stir, but after the VMA's - would Britney really want to put herself back on stage so willingly? If she was that nervous about the VMA's and then got slated for it, it's hardly going to boost her confidence when thinking about her next performance. -_-
September 11, 200717 yr i know they are talking about it but such big events want 100% performances. they only want big names that do actually perform. they wouldnt want this to happen again would they? and risk the quality of the event? maybe they will just get her to present awards at first and gradully get her use to the music scene again
September 11, 200717 yr I think some awards shows would ask her to perform to give her a chance to redeem herself. Plus, she's a really big performer and her single is already taking off majorly. It's not like this ruined her comeback...
