Scotland's Dario Franchitti has won the Indy Racing League championship for 2007.

 

He started the race just 3 points ahead of his nearest rival Scott Dixon.

 

After a safety car period there were just 8 laps left, Dixon was leading, Brit Dan Weldon was second and Franchitti was third.

 

Then Weldon dropped out having ran out of fuel causing another safety car period while they cleared his car from the track. There was then just 2 laps to go Franchitti and Dixon were completely side by side and Dixon also ran out of fuel with 1/2 a lap left handing the victory and the championship to Indy 500 winner Dario.
