When I was growning up, The Carpenters were the first band I really liked. Twee and chessy yes, but such talent, and I would say Karen Carpenter had one of the best voices ever.

I will post the videos of some of their best known songs, so feel free to comment if you are so inclined.

Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft

The first minute of this song is AWFUL. Luckily, the other 5 minutes more than make up for it ^_^

I love Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft.

Yes of course the Carpenters music & image was cheesy MOR, but at their best it was brilliantly crafted MOR music.

I kind of grew up listening to them, I have loads of their albums on vinyl (but sadly no record player...)

I could pick loads more great songs from their back catalogue (and may post some more).

I'm rather fond of their music, and it's sad that Karen suffered from what she did, which caused her untimely demise in 1983...she had one of the best female voices I've ever heard, in my 43 years...
I love their songs Rainy Days and Mondays and We've Only Just Begun. Very good singers. I saw the Karen Carpenter story and indeed, it was a sad thing to happen to her.
They were a great band. Incredible talent and great songs, one of my favourites is definitely "Goodbye To Love".

i think that sums them up best of all...

'close to you' and 'weve only just begun' were good..... 'mr postman' was :puke2:
