March 13, 200619 yr Link to this week's Australian National Top 50 Singles... http://www.ariacharts.com.au/pages/charts_....asp?chart=1S50 TV Rock's "Flaunt it" spends it's second week at No.1. The last time an Australian performed dance single was at No.1 was back on the 10th of June 2002, when "Kiss Kiss" by Holly Valance was at the top for a week. The last Australian Dance Group to have a No.1 was two years earlier than that, June 12th, 2000 when Madison Avenue took their second single "Who the Hell are You" to the pinnacle for two weeks. Also 51 weeks ago was the last time two Australian acts were sitting at No.1 and No.2. The week of March 21st 2005 was when Anthony Callea's second No.1 single "Rain" was at the top, and right behind him at No.2 was Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden's former No.1 single "Almost Here". I mention this because debuting at No.2 is Sydney band Youth Group with their version of "Forever Young". It's a cover of the June 1985 No.47 hit for German group Alphaville, which was redone by another German group Interactive, this time as a techno song in June 1995, where it became a Top 10 single. This version by Youth Group is featured on the O.C. Mix Volume 5 album. The band formed in the late nineties, by school friends Danny Allen, Paul Murphy, Toby Martin and new buddy Andy Cassell, Youth Group grew up in the sweaty cauldrons of inner-city Sydney clubs and pubs. They signed to local independent label Ivy League Records, and they delivered their debut album 'Urban and Eastern' in May 2001. They've played as opening act for International artists including Elliot Smith, The Strokes, Joe Pernice, The Stands and Clem Snide, as well as for local luminaries You Am I, Knievel and Snout. They also spent a month in the US in March 2003, playing at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, then toured the US West Coast with The Vines and The Music. They experienced a line up change with the departure of Cassell and Murphy and the addition of bass player Johnno Lattin and Cameron Emerson-Elliot on guitar, and their second album "Skeleton Jar" was released in March 2004. Coming in at No.4 is "Sorry" by Madonna. This is her 62nd Top 100, her 56th Top 40 single and her 38th Top 10'er. It's also the follow-up to her 10th No.1 single "Hung Up", which gave her the most No.1's in Australia by a Female artist, Kylie is sitting in second with 9 No.1's. It's the second single from her No.1 album (21-Nov-05) "Confessions on a Dance Floor" which is at No.17 on this week's album charts. It was also recently a No.1 single on the U.K. charts (week of 26-Feb-2006). And becomes her 14th single-titled single, following in the steps of such songs as "Holiday", "Borderline", "Angel", "Gambler", "Cherish", "Vogue", "Erotica", "Fever", "Rain", "Secret", "Frozen", "Music", and "Hollywood". Just a quick oddity at No.6 this week with "Pump it" by The Black Eyed Peas. Last week it was sitting at the Date-of-the-Chart position. Chart date was 6-3-6. It's positions were 6-3-6. Now this is the third week in a row that the song has sat at No.6, giving it a chart run in it's four weeks of 8-6-6-6. The last song to have a 6-6-6 run was the former No.1 single by Shannon Noll, "Shine" in October 2004. Also "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt spends it's 13th week in the Top 10, one week less than his first single "You're Beautiful", so next week we find out if this song spends as much time in the Top 10 as his first did. "You're Beautiful" is at No.3 on the U.S. Billboard charts this week after reaching No.1 last week. Other new entires include the No.13 debut of "All I Hear" by Kate Alexa. It's her first Top 20 single since "Always There" reached No.16 in late October 2004, and Kate was the support act on the recent Backstreet Boys tour of Australia. She wrote the song during a two-week writing spree in Los Angeles last November, where she worked with hit-makers Reed Vertelney (Destiny's Child, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson) and Lindy Robbins(Anastasia and the Backstreet Boys' recent No.1 Australia single "Incomplete".) At No.30 is the dark "Song to Say Goodbye" by Placebo, and it's their first Top 30 single EVER in Australia. Their last Top 50 single was the No.47 single "The Bitter End" in March 2003, and this single is taken from their forthcoming fifth album "Meds" which is out in shops this week. They have planned a world tour to accompany this album, which starts in Chile. At No.42 is Gyroscope with the double A-Side single (does that still work) "Fast Girl" / "Beware Wolf", and at No.46 is Annie with her sugar-sweet pop single "Chewing Gum". BIGGEST DROPPERS for the week were: 25 to 35 (10 places) - The Shake - Kisschasey 8 to 17 (9 places) - You Raise Me Up - Westlife 15 to 24 (9 places) - Wasabi - Lee Harding Here is a link to this week's Australian National Albums chart: http://www.ariacharts.com.au/pages/charts_....asp?chart=1A50 No.1 for the second week is "Face to Face" by Westlife, but after the Oscars win, people are going to see "Walk the Line", which moves up to No.2 on the albums chart this week, the movie is sitting at No.2 on the Australian Box Office Report, where it has earned over 10.4 million, and puts in second place for the Highest earning film this year so-far. Johnny Cash also has four other albums in the Top 40 this week. Future tourists to Australia U2 (who have now postponed their tour due to illness, but assure us they will still be coming), have their album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" go from 27 to 10 this week, whilst their best-of albums 1980-1990 and 1990-2000 re-enter the albums chart at No.24 and No.25 respectively. Highest new entry on the albums chart comes in right the U2 Best-of's, Bic Runga's new album entitled "Birds" is in at No.26, and she is touring the country in support of it's release. http://www.musicworldonline.com.au/ Here is a list of the No.1 songs this week on the Australian charts for the past 66 years... 2006 - Flaunt it - TV Rock (2nd week) 2005 - Almost Here - Delta Goodrem & Brian McFadden (1 week only) 2004 - Toxic - Britney Spears (1st of 2 weeks) 2003 - Lost Without You - Delta Goodrem (1st of 2 weeks) 2002 - Whenever, Wherever - Shakira (6th of 6 weeks) 2001 - Case of the Ex - Mya (1st of 2 weeks) 2000 - Bye Bye Bye - NSync (1st of 5 weeks) 1999 - ...Baby, One More Time - Britney Spears (4th of 9 weeks) 1998 - It's Like That - Run-D.M.C. vs Jason Nevins (1 week only) 1997 - Don't Speak - No Doubt (6th of 8 weeks) 1996 - One of Us - Joan Osborne (1st of 5 weeks) 1995 - Another Night - MC Sar & The Real McCoy (5th of 6 weeks) 1994 - It's Alright - East 17 (2nd of 7 weeks) 1993 - You Don't Treat Me No Good - Sonia Dada (3rd of 4 weeks) 1992 - Sal****er - Julian Lennon (2nd of 4 weeks) 1991 - I've Been Thinking About You - Londonbeat (4th of 4 weeks) 1990 - Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor (3rd of 8 weeks) 1989 - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers (4th of 4 weeks) 1988 - I Should Be So Lucky - Kylie Minogue (1st of 6 weeks) 1987 - I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) - George Michael & Aretha Franklin (1st of 4 weeks) 1986 - When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going - Billy Ocean (1st of 6 weeks) 1985 - I Want to Know What Love is - Foreigner (5th of 5 weeks) 1984 - Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar (5th of 5 weeks) 1983 - Gloria - Laura Branigan (6th of 7 weeks) 1982 - Centrefold - J Geils Band (1 week only) 1981 - Couting the Beat - The Swingers (3rd of 3 weeks) 1980 - Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen (3rd of 7 weeks) 1979 - Le Freak - Chic (3rd of 5 weeks) 1978 - It's a Heartache - Bonnie Tyler (3rd of 4 weeks) 1977 - The Way You Do it - Pussyfoot (7th of 7 weeks) 1976 - Convoy - C.W.
