BRIAN McFadden, who came to fame as a member of Irish boy band Westlife, has co-written six tracks on Delta.

"I never knew he'd be so crucial to the album," Goodrem says. "I didn't want to write with him for the album, we never intended to do that. I'd written with other people, but nothing was making me excited, making me feel the magic."

One song became the album's turning point. Believe Again was written with a seemingly unlikely team Goodrem calls The Elements -- herself, McFadden, dance producer Stuart Crichton (Kylie, Jamelia, Sugababes) and Nashville-based country writer Tommy Lee James.

The epic song -- lush strings and Massive Attack-style dance beats with an uplifting anthemic chorus -- is like nothing Goodrem has made before .

It is to her what Confide in Me was to Kylie and Frozen was to Madonna and is earmarked as the album's second single.

"Sometimes you write songs and think, that's fine, that's OK," Goodrem says. "I didn't want fine. I wanted better than fine. I wanted to have a great album.

"I've always had a really good ear for a great song that appeals to a lot of people. Nothing to do with my music, but I can hear a song and know it's going to be huge. I wanted to make sure I had something that special.

"I didn't sit down and think that I needed to try to be contemporary, to be modern, that I needed to get this person. Believe Again was the one that turned the corner. It inspired the whole album."

On one new song, You Will Only Break My Heart, Goodrem gets funky with reggae beats.

"I think people want to hear something new," she says. "I hope people are ready for me to grow up. I can't do the cutesy thing any more. It's not where I'm at."

Though her "signature" sound permeates the album, Goodrem struggled to write power ballads, which were once her forte.

Only one piano ballad -- Black Apple -- came out. She found it too dark to fit on the album.

She ended up out-sourcing two ballads -- Woman and The Guardian.

"I wanted to have fun, be free-spirited," she says. "I didn't want to be serious. My life got so serious so fast. This chapter was about being young again.

"I'd gone through something serious, it wasn't make-believe. I think some people couldn't relate to Mistaken Identity. You can't just put that album on while you're making the dinner. It's intense. You feel emotionally exhausted after it. It was absolutely about what was going on. I was emotionally exhausted.

"I'm glad I got it out of my system. I expelled it. It was a case of 'Here's everything that went on', but I've done the intense thing now. I don't want to be intense any more. I just wanted to make great pop songs."

One new track, Possessionless, reaches back to the Mistaken Identity period. It seems a simple love song about an early moment of intimacy, but it has a deeper meaning for Goodrem.

"I'd never had those girl insecurities as a kid. Then I lost my hair, it went green, I had braces, I was on steroids. I thought about how when there's absolutely nothing else, you're possessionless. Would you love someone when they're bare naked like that? You have absolutely nothing, not even eyelashes. There's no facade, nothing to hide."

love this interview! info packed! WOOOT love it so excited. have to re-read later, im busy atm. with just a quick look it sounds awesome
Even though she says "Black Apple" won't be on the album, something makes me want to hear that song more than anything else, i love mistaken idenity album more than innocent eyes, so if it is a big power ballad that sounds slightly strange, i think it'd be a good song! It better leak -_-
Can't wait for Believe Again, I love most songs with strings in, they really add to the drama of a song
POSSESSIONLESS! I'm not kidding you, this is probably one of the happiest moment of my life finding out it's on there. Finally I get to hear it again, it means a lot for me to have that.

You want to hear Black Apple (and so do I) cuz its not gonna be in the album :) You dont have the new ones yet but you already wanted sth newer :P

Well, as for interview... Now I see thet Im not gonna love the album. Sure, It has interesting titles, probably it will be grwat vocally and beautiful lyrics, and great pop... But i really prefer Mi to IE and MI makes me feel like I forget its something pop, its more like singing really personal poetry, giving yourself all away... Its amazing. I guess for her it was exhoausting but thats what so special about it, its so emocional... I only heard three albums like that it my life, including MI...

As for being serious.. Sure, she got over the illness let her be young and free but in her life. I cannot understand, I cannot relate to a girl who wants to do "beat" album , with pop songs... What I liked the best about Delta was that she was so young and wrote such serious and meaningful lyrics... She is right - I dont think Im ready for her grown up version. But if she grows up from what she has the best in her to some carefree and enjoying attitude then maybe its better for me... Deltas not gonna be before MI for sure.

As for Brian - Im so fed up with this guy that I cannot stop myself. I never liked him, even when i didnt know who Delta was... Something about him makes me think hes fake... If hes so talented why his lyrics and song arent so great? I think that he throws the topic and Delta write it herself... And what most annoy me about this is that Delta talks abouts him like hes some hero.. "he inspires me, hes so passionate about music...". If he is that he does pretty good job with hiding it. Wish them good luck, and let them be happy, but without Brian in the picture of Deltas career...

We must have almost all the song titles now!! Sounds so good although I don't think I will like the reggae style song - is that the same one from the 'in the studio' clip background? I hope it is, cuz then it will just be the one song I probably won't like ! I really hope 'Reaching Out' is on there - she hasn't mentioned it. It is a piano ballad though, so maybe it won't make the album?

"Black Apple" sounds so good. Really mysterious. I want to hear it more than the whole album I think!!!

this song must be really special to go back to be on the album, since it goes back to the MI days. it must be single worthy, why else would she have it on the album after all this time. really excited about this song

is that quote the lyric or what delta said about it..

Black Apple really does sound negative and dark. who could be the black apple? mark? paris? kerry? the media? her fathers misstress? hmmm....

and i doubt reaching out is on the album since it says she has two piano ballads that she did not write and these are the only two Woman and The Guardian. unless reaching out is not a piano ballad...

the Woman and The Guardian sound like boring titles. i hope they are exciting tracks. delta didnt write lwy, i hope they are as well written as that song

I hope there will be piano on the album, even if not on any ballads. That is one of the reasons I love her music to hear her piano!

Black Apple, yes like everyone else I am dying to hear this!

Possessionless was re-worked with Brian McFadden so I knew this would be on the album otherwise why would they re-work it [before Brian had no hand in the song and now he appears on the credits]. Looking forward to hearing that one anyway.

Really excited about the album now, not long to go!! [and we hear Take Me Home tomorrow too woop]!

i actually read it wrong. it is going to be on itunes. maybe at midnight or sometime tomorrow?
NatalieMT - you heard Possessionless before? When?
is that quote the lyric or what delta said about it..

That was what I said about it. To be honest I can only recall very few lyrics of the song.

And yeah Eggie it's a long story, basically I was present at the recording of Possessionless and that's when I heard it.

OMG i think its in the studio footage no.2, and in the background there playing some really uplifting string music when delta's talking...I bet thats Believe Again!!!
