New at No.3 and No.4 are Shannon Noll’s Loud and Rihanna’s Shut Up And Drive respectively. Jumping three places is Fall Out Boy, rocking up to No.6 with Thnks Fr Th Mmrs. Close behind is Ricki-Lee, who falls two places to No.7 with Can’t Touch It. As for the next two places, Mika drops in at #8 with Love Today, followed by Avril Lavigne’s When You’re Gone at No.9 and last but certainly by no means least, 50 Cent rips it up at No.10 with Ayo Technology.

LOUD - Shannon Noll

No.3

Singer-songwriter Shannon Noll is truly a star in his own right. The 2003 runner-up of Australian Idol has released his tenth consecutive Top 10 hit. Amongst those singles, three have reached the No.1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart – What About Me (Feb. ’04), Learn To Fly (July ’04) and Shine (Oct. ’05). Noll has also released two No.1 albums – That’s What I’m Talking About (Feb. ’04) and Lift (Oct. ’05). Will Noll’s forthcoming album, Turn It Up make it a hat trick? Stay tuned to find out…

SHUT UP AND DRIVE - Rihanna

No.4

Pop princess, Rihanna, comes storming in with the second single release off her current album, Good Girl Gone Bad (No.5 June ’07). Shut Up And Drive follows her massive world wide hit Umbrella, which held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Single Chart for six consecutive weeks over June-July this year. Umbrella also picked up two gongs for Rihanna at the MTV Music Video Awards recently, taking out Single Of The Year and the coveted Video Of The Year categories.

AYO TECHNOLOGY - 50 Cent Feat. Justin Timberlake No.10

American rapper 50 Cent, rose to prominence straight off the bat of his first single, In Da Club. The track spent five consecutive weeks at No.1 on the ARIA Singles Chart during April-May 2003. Today, 50 Cent is one of the highest paid rappers and has stakes in quite a few ventures including his own record label, a sneaker line with Reebok, a clothing label, a vitamin drink, a self-written memoir on his life titled From Pieces to Weight: Once upon a Time in Southside Queens and last but not least he starred in his own semi-autobiography film Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, which was also the title of 50 Cent’s debut album. The album peaked at No.4 in March 2003 and the soundtrack peaked at No.22 in February 2006.

TEENAGERS - My Chemical Romance

After a year’s absence from the charts, MCR brought down the house with their second album, The Black Parade (No.3 Nov. ’06). The album included the singles – Welcome To The Black Parade (No.14 Jan. ’07), Famous Last Words (No.20 Feb. ’07) and I Don’t Love You (No.64 July ’07).

1973 - James Blunt

No.17

Taking a year’s hiatus to write new material for his forthcoming album, All The Lost Souls, James Blunt spent most of this time in his Ibiza home fine-tuning unreleased tracks he had performed while on tour and where being used for the new album. 1973 was inspired by a nightclub in Ibiza called ‘Pacha’ that Blunt visited. Resident DJ there, Pete Tong also did a remix of 1973. Blunt is best known for his tracks You’re Beautiful (No.2 Nov. ’05), which is said to be the most asked for songs for weddings in the UK, Goodbye My Lover (No.3 Jan. ’06) and Wisemen (No.11 May ’06).

WAKE UP CALL - Maroon 5 No.19

Maroon 5 comprises of Adam Levine (lead vocals, guitar), James Valentine (guitar, backing vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, backing vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar) and Matt Flynn (drums). The single took out the No.1 spot for four consecutive weeks in September that year. Maroon 5’s new material was inspired by iconic 80s artists including Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads. Wake Up Call is the second track lifted from Maroon 5’s current album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long (No.5 June ’07).

SONG FOR MUTYA - Groove Armada

No.24

They formed in the mid 90’s after Andy Cato’s girlfriend introduced him to Tim Findlay. Soon after the pair started their own club night, aptly called – Groove Armada, inspired by a 70’s discotheque. The dynamic duo have since had their music heard from all corners of the globe, as many of their titles have been used for marketing campaigns, such as Mercedes-Benz (If Everybody Looked The Same – No.89 July ‘00) and Renault (I See You Baby – No.11 Feb. ’02) to film and television. The boys even scored themselves a chance to work with Kylie Minogue on her new album which is slated for release later this year. Song For Mutya features ex-Sugababe, Mutya Buena on vocals and is the follow up single to former No.1 ARIA Club Chart hit, Get Down (No.33 May ’07).

Albums

This week a milestone occurs – P!nk’s I’m Not Dead album at No.7 has been consecutively in the ARIA Top 10 album charts for 61 weeks, a feat only accomplished by Shania Twain’s Come on Over (1998) and Dire Straits Brother’s In Arms (1985). Will P!nk reach 62 uninterrupted weeks next week, therefore taking out the title? Paul Pott’s has proved for the second week in a row that Britain does indeed have talent with his album, One Chance staying strong at No.1. A new addition this week at No.2 is The Waifs with Sun Dirt Water, meanwhile staying put for the second continuous week is The Traveling Wilburys’ Collection at No.3. Damien Leith’s, Where We Land has landed down to No.4 and Michael Buble’s Call Me Irresponsible has also been bumped down to No.5. Rounding it all off is the John Butler Trio’s Grand National remaining stationed at No.9 and Powderfinger’s Dream Days At The Hotel Existence at No.10.

SUN DIRT WATER - The Waifs No.2

The Waifs have come a long way since they first started out in Western Australia in 1993. The single London Still (No.49 July ‘02) and album, Up All Night (No.3 Jan. ‘03) were both nominated for several ARIA Awards in 2002 and 2003. The album won four awards for the trio, taking out Best Blues and Roots Album, Best Independent Release, Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year. Their last album, A Brief History (No.23 Nov. ‘04) was the first release under their new label, Jarrah, which they have formed in partnership with John Butler. The single, The Bridal Train (No.50 Apr. ‘04) taken from A Brief History, won first prize in the ‘Folk’ category and was the overall winner in a USA Songwriting Competition last year.

LEAD SAILS PAPER ANCHOR - Atreyu No.38

Starting out in Orange County, California in 1988, the band was originally called Retribution, but changed their name to Atreyu after they found another band was already going by that title. The name Atreyu is taken from a character in the movie, The Neverending Story. Lead Sails Paper Anchor is the follow up to last year’s, Deathgrip on Yesterday (No.49 Apr. ‘06). Atreyu released a single, Becoming The Bull from the new album through their website in the form of a game. The track was cut into separate clips and to hear the song in its entirety you had to place the clips in the right order, with any successful participants being put into a competition to win autographed gear and the CD before it was officially released.

HEAL ME - Salmonella Dub No.93

Formed in 1992 with core members Andrew Penman (guitar, samples, vocals), David Deakins (drums, vocals, acoustic guitar) and Mark Tyler (bass, keyboard), and has now grown to include Tiki Taane (acoustic guitar, vocals, percussion) Conan Wilcox (saxophone, percussion, vocals, keys) and Peter Wood (Trumpet, keyboards). Originally from New Zealand, their shows are typically accompanied by a live video which is provided by Tim Budgen of Warp TV. This is Salmonella Dub’s first album in four years, the last being One Drop East (No.84 Sep. ‘03). Since that release they have spent a lot of time touring through Australia, the UK and Ireland, among other countries. Their music has been described as being a blend of reggae, drum n bass and dub (a form of Jamaican music evolved out of reggae).
