September 18, 200717 yr which of the 2 movies has that girl with a machine gun leg? That would be "Planet Terror"....
September 20, 200717 yr That would be "Planet Terror".... Will probably watch that one then, seemed to spark more interest
September 22, 200717 yr Author Trust me, you're gonna be wading through an unbelievable amount of boring, tedious sh!te masquerading as characterisation and dialogue before you get to the genuinely good parts of the film - ie, the last 20 mins or so and the big car wreck about half-way through.... a brilliant film such a buzz, think i might go and see it again. really leave the cinema on such a high after seeing it. yeah there was no character building and the direlog is no pulp fiction, but its a film to stick with as the end makes it rewarding and makes you change opinion. like hidden and the king. those were hard films to sit thru, and i had to stop start the king about 5 times before i managed to get into it and reach the end. but once youve sen it your like think i must see that again!!!!! wl2c it as part of grindhouse as it would make so much more sense. but im still waiting for the full kill bill. c'mon c'mon where the f*** is it???!!! actually think they should do another cut of the film where its daniel autill from hidden watching it, so he can ffwd thru most of the talky bits , yeah would have been better without that extra 30 mins and just had the lapdance, the crash and ffwded it to zoe on the front of the Dodge Challenger. cool soundtrack as well this film is gonna p*** off loads of people who havent seen any grindhouse classics / dont read dvd world magazine, esp if they are just used to michael bay glossfests. buy hey whatever, do you really wanna see a versh of this when the star car is the one below   not me for 1 http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-2006/2006-Dodge-Challenger-Concept-SA-1920x1440.jpg only probs was that the 70s stylee of the film prints and all the cracks and slashes and grubby prints kinda jarred with all the cellphones and modern cars in the background. actually rather than a 1970s grindhouse film it reminded more of an aussie film (esp something like mad max) esp in the final car chase. btw maybe this should re-imagined next by QT  http://images.amazon.com/images/P/6305871256.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg booo hoo, arent you missing music zone's clagheap corner too!!!! He was great on Jonathan Ross, I used to respect Tarantino, but now, I just think he's a total w/anker, and the fact that he's trying to spin this to make it sound like nobody in this country wanted to see the "Grindhouse" double-bill is an outright LIE..... nah dont blame him blame nick park as it seem to be he who is animating tarantino's head at the moment!!!!
September 22, 200717 yr Author This film is actually cr@p, my advice is to stay well clear of it. it not c**p but you gotta know about that style of grindhouse to appreciate it, if your gonna just go to the cinema and watch the latest michael bay prodded swankfest obv your gonna think this is $h!t. obv its not as great as all his other films (havent actually seen res dogs and all of pulp fiction thru) but it is still better than something like evening and chuck and larry and thats got jessica biel in a rubber cat suit!!! meow and meow again!!! it is great but obv you gotta know those kinda dvd world*/grindhouse films to start off with to get it. *can we have more grindhouse and less latex porn plz dvd world!!!!
September 24, 200717 yr it not c**p but you gotta know about that style of grindhouse to appreciate it, "Grindhouse" or "Exploitation" style is exactly what this film is NOT if you actually think about it Alex... The whole point of a Russ Meyer or Herschell Gordon Lewis (the two genuine, original purveyors of Grindhouse and Exploitation films..) film is that they had bugger all money, unintentional bad acting and looked cheap and nasty because they were cheap and nasty.. Tarantino is an utter fraud, he's trying to make out like "Death Proof" is this no-budget exploitation flick when nothing could be further from the truth.. Having people like Rose McGowan and Kurt Russell in the film would be a bit like Lewis or Meyer having access to Jane Fonda or Paul Newman, the whole point of these "Exploitation" films is that they were totally outside the Hollywood system, Tarantino is Hollywood royalty, he could no sooner be "outside" the system than Michael Bay or James Cameron..... A proper, recent example of an Exploitation/Grindhouse film would be "The Zombie Diaries".. You want "Grindhouse", bugger Tarantino, and go see this film instead, non-existent budget, dodgy acting, filmed on digital video (which is more than likely what the likes of Meyer and Lewis would film on if they were making films these days..). A thousand times more credible as an exploitation film than QT's ego-massaging large budget wankfest... All QT has done is to make an intentionally bad film with over 20 million dollars at his disposal, and it's not a "so bad it's good" film (like "Planet Terror"), it's just a bad film.. And splitting the two films up just makes the whole supposed "Grindhouse" idea completey null and void anyway... All "Death Proof" is, is a c**p Hollywood film pretending to be something that it aint....
October 3, 200717 yr Actually, I thought that this film was alright, even though it amounts to nothing more than a couple of car crashes and a great film soundtrack. Verbally, there was nothing to hit the heights of the French beef-burger ‘Royale with Cheese’ conversation between ‘Vince’ and ‘Jules’ from ‘Pulp Fiction’, though I did like the ‘butterfly and the wolf’ conversation between ‘Stuntman Mike’ and the girls in the first half of the film. I would say it is worth watching if these are the films that you like, though I think that the film will be rated closer to ‘Four Rooms’ than ‘Jackie Brown’ in the affections of his fans. 4/5
November 20, 200717 yr Author Okay, it's a homage, but the potential for this film (or films...) to be an UTTER pile of sh!te is huge beyond imagining.... so what was your opinion on planet terror?? better than QT's half? i liked it and found it funny, but i went with a brother who is not scared of anything (he says) and said it was the most boring experience he has been too but he likes dumbass action films and i dont think he would want to watch any old grindhouse italian zombi horror film from the 70s in the first place. the man at the back of the theatre was a real fan boy and totally laughed his head off, booming out when qt arrived, must have known all the in-jokes. and its always good to see nasty things happen to fergie
November 22, 200717 yr so what was your opinion on planet terror?? better than QT's half? i liked it and found it funny, but i went with a brother who is not scared of anything (he says) and said it was the most boring experience he has been too but he likes dumbass action films and i dont think he would want to watch any old grindhouse italian zombi horror film from the 70s in the first place. the man at the back of the theatre was a real fan boy and totally laughed his head off, booming out when qt arrived, must have known all the in-jokes. and its always good to see nasty things happen to fergie  As I said, I found it to be good, nasty, gory fun, and unlike "Death Proof" actually had a focus and knew what it wanted to lampoon/pay tribute to. DP suffered from a total lack of focus, "Planet Terror" has its wayward moments, but remains focussed overall... For me - Planet Terror - 7/10 Death Proof - 3.5/10
November 23, 200717 yr I have actually seen so far only Death Proof (the extended cut) and that was a horrendously boring snoozefeast. No wonder the film bombed at the box office. And the shorter version cannot be much better since there is enough material for a 45-minute tv show episode at the most and the shorter one still runs something like 90 mins. I've heard (as Grimly also states above) that Planet Terror is way better so I gotta rent the dvd sometime in near future.
November 27, 200717 yr Author I have actually seen so far only Death Proof (the extended cut) and that was a horrendously boring snoozefeast. I wouldnt go as far as saying it was a horrendously boring snoozefeast, yeah the talky bits (which supposed to be QT's speciality) went on but it did have THAT crash and THAT ending, which means that it was worth sitting thru all the bar stuff to get to that point. and also on the plus side its not clueless and muddled as shrooms (so bad i walked out) or august rush which was like condensing all thats bad about newton faulkner into film form (and seemed to have robin williams as some kind of predetory pedophile as played by garth brooks playing chris gaines - tho in some parts unintentionally william's funniest film in about 90 years!!!!) http://www.mechanismrecords.com/images/Bandartwork/KakiKing/KakiKingAugustBan.jpg
March 12, 200817 yr I saw this shown for the first time (as it was meant to be seen - with the trailers and everything) in London at the weekend. It was introduced by Edgar Wright which made my night because he is a total genius! But that's by the by, as a whole night experience it was great - the faux trailers for other films and bits were brilliant and really added to the mood of it all. Planet Terror was what I expected and I thought it was quite authentically trashed. I thought Deathproof was just a Tarantino film without too much thought to making it too different. Because I saw it as one feature I have not seen them in their extended versions, but I wouldn't have wanted either of them to be any longer. Check out the trailers - Edgar Wright's Don't and Eli Roth's Thanksgiving were particularly fun! The audience spent the night laughing and generally enjoying it which was great :D
March 16, 200817 yr I got Planet Terror yesterday and i LOVED it!!! The storyline was over-all cheese but it was good cheese and is one of the greatest films ive seen in AGES! I love Tarantino/Rodrigues!!! Not to mention the wonderful Rose McGowan being in the films too :) Btw anyone gonna watch Machette? I thought the trailer before the film was just so random but funny and im kinda glad its being made into a film now Edited March 16, 200817 yr by Joao Filipe
March 20, 200817 yr Saw these both ages ago and absolutly love Planet Terror but couldnt get into Death Proof at all
April 10, 200817 yr Deathproof could've been any Tarantino film to me - it wasn't really as authentically done as Planet Terror. Edgar Wright said that it's going to be shown in the UK as a double bill on limited release soon!
April 10, 200817 yr Is it out in the cinema now? I want to planet terror because I like Rose Mcgowan.. a stupid reason to see a film, I know
April 18, 200817 yr Author Is it out in the cinema now? I want to planet terror because I like Rose Mcgowan.. a stupid reason to see a film, I know  yeah but only at arthouse cinema i think - dont think the multiplexes will be bothered
April 28, 201213 yr I have only just watched Deathproof and I have never cheered so much at seeing somebody's neck being snapped. Although it wasn't vinatge Tarantino, Iwas still gripped all the way through. Although it was such a film of two halves linked by one character. In the second half it seemed to take elements from Spielberg's Duel and obviously Vanishing Point. BTW I have ridden on the bonnet of a car (at only 30mph!) and I came off way worse.
