evidently according to that nice DS(kids insisted I did some brain training on theirs) I have a mental age of 77 - good going I thought, seeing as I am losing the plot completely lately

They're overrated anyway. (brains I mean)

Sorry I've not been on. I've got unexpected house guests just now. They should have been staying elsewhere but the building work which should have been finished in time, wasn't.

That's typical of Christmas. We always over buy as we always end up with extra people.

I've actually enjoyed having their company. It's no trouble. They've been away sightseeing in Glasgow and Edinburgh quite a bit.

Our family always has unexpected things happen in December. My father used to call it Black December and he quite noticably relaxed at the New Year bells.

Today I was supposed to be going to my brother's to help them clean up a bit more. Their lounge ceiling came down in the middle of the night. Plaster and chunks of heavy cornicing were everywhere. It's frightening to think we'd all been in there just hours before.

We had very heavy rain and strong winds but I don't know if that was a contributing factor.

What a nightmare - at least it had the good manners to wait for you to all leave the room. It's not the kind of surprise Christmas present that you want.

BT - what a terrible thing to happen, so pleased no-one was there at the time...

We are just getting the rain and winds now

We had bad winds and rain last night but, it's mild and dry in between. You definately need a coat this afternoon though - the sun is still out but the wind has picked up and is COLD.

The guy's been and taken down a good bit more of the ceiling but of course work won't begin on it for sometime because of the New Year holidays here. Why do calamities only happen at the most awkward times?

Lucky no one was hurt BT. Did the guy say why the ceiling collapsed?

It's been a succession of crises since August. I really admire them. They've taken them all in their stride and they're undaunted. They deserve some good fortune in 2008.

I'll be away from tomorrow until Wednesday.

Best Wishes for a Happy New Year to everyone. May it bring you and yours all you would wish yourselves.

I echo BT's sentiments. Happy New Year to everyone and here's to a Darius-filled 2008

Let's face it - any would be nice. I hope his plans work out and there are lots.
