Are you sure that's it's not just that he's attractive and your putting dust in? I had two firemen in and the neighbours were really jealous.

Not at all!

Funnily enough my neighbour was out yesterday and came back to see my outside door open and all my windows opened wide. She though either I'd had a fire or her house had been on fire and the smoke had come up to me. I was glad to assure her it was just a preventative measure becvause the fitter needed to work with the gas on for a very short time.

I'm glad she didn't see them all open again at 11 o'clock at night because the lady from Transco's phone line insisted that's what I should do while I waited for their guy to come out.

I'd to turn all gas appliances off, turn the gas off at the main and I wasn't to put on any more electrical ones.

I'd tried in vain to tell her that it wasn't an emergency and there was no leak.

He came out and cleaned out the filter thing and he blew some pressurised gas through, so hopefully that will be everything alright now.

He also said that if it happened again, I'd probably need to replace all the pipes, because dust can be caused by.... oxidisation, I think he said.

That was strange - I tried to type "b)" and got a smilie. I tried to edit it 3 times but in the end, had to delete it altogether.

It must be short cut keys. I press a combination sometimes and don't know what on earth I've done.

Let's just hope it doesn't get to replacing the pipes.

Tbh I think if it comes to that, I'd rather get the gas capped and change to an electric fire than have all that disruption.

Gas used to be cheaper but, I think it all costs a fortune now. I just like a gas hob though.

There are some very realistic electric fires around now......they've improved immensely

over the last few years.

Having lived with real fires being the only form of heating, I wouldn't want to go back there. Having to get up, clean the fire out and relay and light it on a winter morning puts me right of.

I had that a few days ago. It's so frustrating when you can finally get on it, just to find you can't.
I need central heating. My body can't cope with changes in temperature from room to room. I get cold too quickly.

Not you. I'd say that you were the warmest person I'd ever met but I'm not good at lying with a straight face. Actually, you need central heating IN you. May stop the fingers falling off.

You can buy handwarmers.....you activate them for a single use........

Thanks. It's good to have friends :w00t:

this is true

Thanks for the suggestion. A single use is no good. My hands freeze each time I go outside, despite wearing gloves

I think, when you retire, you should make sure you save up enough to move to a warm country - just not too far so we can visit.
Hmm, I could move to Hollywood, somewhere near a certain person. :)

I get nostalgic for an open fire, especially now there are all the Christmas ads and films with roaring fires. I could easily convert back in 2 of my rooms so I have to consciously remind myself what a drag it was raking out all the ashes, choking half the time and then having to go outside in the freezing cold to put them in the bin.

Maybe I should put wallpaper of a big log fire on here.

I would fight tooth and nail to keep my gas hob. It's so easy to control the temperature on there. Little flame, less heat - absolute no brainer. If I burn something, it's carelessness, or sometimes just forgetting I have anything on the stove.

we opted for a living flame gas fire, looks homely but without the fuss, next door have an open fire and he is always out back sawing bits off the trees..and chopping logs, I can hear them brushing the ashes out early morning too..can't be bothered with all that

Even an Aga is a pain - and you don't have a roaring fire to watch in the living room
