What's true though is that they live on in the memories of so many others whose lives they've touched, however briefly.

My daughter is so like my Dad in ways but she couldn't possibly have learned the expressions so it must be genetics - or his influence from afar. She is like him in looks too.
not Darius related, but Patrick Swayze has Pancreatic cancer, such a shame - I expect it didnt help that he had his drink problems - such a shame as he isnt that old, and pancreatic cancer is not one that you live long with I fear. :(

I was shocked to the core when I heard. He's always seemed a really nice and genuine person.

Is the prognosis always bad for pancreatic cancer?

There's a whole thread about it over in the Lounge thread. This is from there.

Official statement from his publicist, from Perez via DS. It appears it is untrue he has five weeks to live thankfully, but confirms he does have cancer.

"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

which sounds a lot better.

the prognosis is always bad for Pancreatic cancer, I think most live a year - 3% may live over five years, depends how early it was discovered -

mind you being a morbid soul I look these things up -

Mum's sister died of cancer. It only leaves my Mum and her twin sister now, in that generation.
Sad news about Patrick Swayze. I've always liked him. My aunt died of cancer of the pancreas.

At one time 55 would have been considered as old. Now life expectancy is so much longer, it's become middle aged.

I think we have to live for the moment.

A friend of my sister-in-law got home from work this week, didn't feel great and went upstairs to lie down . She asked her son and/or husband when he came in to wake her at six o'clock. She was dead and beyond recussitation when they did. She had just turned 50.

That's such a shock for everyoned concerned. No time to say goodbye or tell them you love them.

It's practically unthinkable.

I wish the media would back off Patrick Swayze and stop virtually writing his obituary in front of his eyes. They should give him and his family some privacy and let them decide if they will release any statements etc.
