skinheads burst onto the scene in 1968/9, probably as a direct opposition to the overwhelming 'hippy' movement. dissaffected working class lads who didnt buy into the whole hippy scene, which seemed to centre on universities/colleges, rejected all the long hair and flower power in favour of violence and yobism. 'bovver boys' were out for 'agro' , mischeif, centred often on football clubs they were the archytypal 'yob'. having shaved heads, wearing denim jeans usually held up with braces!, ben sherman shirts (often checked), crombies or denim jackets and of course doc marten boots were quite an intimidating sight. they were feircely racist and homophobic.... which is where the irony comes in

they were racist (and are still associated with the bnp) but loved reggae! black music!

they were homophobic but in an ironic twist the 'shaved head, checked shirt and denim jeans' look was adopted by the gay community in the 80's onwards!

thought proper skins were not racist and homophobic, thought its something that evolved from mod and was like trojan records and was like was ska etc was rudeboy was all tho things.

think its just happened that a subculture of white power and bnp tookover and that caused a moral panic and that got the daily mail upset and then people thought that skinhead = racism n homophobia = trouble

this is what This Is England kinda took the view of as well (even tho some people in that are probably more classed as Suedeheads than skins) which was set in the 2 tone era wan it.

think like music genres skinhead dont just relate to one thing, loads of urban tribes used that look all a sub-division of the original but the mejjjjja just opbsessing about trouble as usual.

something that scott would probs know about
