Posted September 16, 200717 yr What I mean by this is for example off the first album "Mardy Bum" and "A Certain Romance" were easily two of the best tracks on the album and if either of those were released (especially Mardy Bum) I think the album would have sold a LOT more than it has. It's the same with the 2nd album too, with "505" and "Do Me A Favour" which some fans think are classic tracks and would promote the album a heck of a lot more (i'd love to see 505 being released but I don't see it. :() But when you ask people to name you an Arctic Monkeys track chances are they'll say one of those tracks (well someone who's quite a big fan of the band) and when you see the songs played at gigs some of those tracks are the ones that get the biggest reaction and at the moment "A Certain Romance" is always the set closer unless they do an encore. Do you think that your enjoyment of these tracks would have been spolied and they'd have lost their title as Arctic Monkeys "classics" had they got a release (or get a release) :o
September 17, 200717 yr That's a good question... I guess the answer is yes!!! Imagine if classic singles like "Dancefloor" or "Fluorescent Adolescent" hadn't been released and kept off as mere album tracks... you'd be making the same thread but with those tracks instead of "Mardy Bum" and "A Certain Romance". I think it's nice to have them not released, cause they get preserved and they have this special something that the released tracks have lost when they got killed by radio overplay.
September 17, 200717 yr i think that great tracks are for everyone not only for the fanbase... i mean a lot of people dont own the 2 arctic monkeys albums n dont know even these songs. even in uk a lot og people dont have a clue about a certain romance or 505 , mardly bum or teddy picker... the 2 monkeys albums are not mega sellers like morning glory , when all the britain knew the tracks...so i think that the band should release the best tracks n not keep that elitistic behaviour... songs like mardly bum , 505 are an open door for everyone to great music...they are an invitation for everyone...we should not keep our party close only for a few people... FF , possibly the best track on their new album reached "only" #5 in uk charts...is that a failure?definitely not...after a few years people will not remember or care about its chart position...people will only remember a classic track n that s what really matters... so release the best tracks even if they have to release every track of their new album as a single ;)
September 17, 200717 yr Very true. All the people i know who like the band, always mention "Mardy Bum" and "A Certain Romance"... Definately should have been singles :( and would have helped the Album alot more. Sometimes i think the people that decide Single Choices for Artists, need shooting :|.

I'd really love to have seen "Mardy Bum" released as a single now, as I think it would have been absolutely HUGE and I think the video would have been great aswell, but hey, I guess it's never gonna be released now. :( That track though had it got released would have told the whole of the UK who the Arctic Monkeys were had it got released.
