‘Great Songs Missing from iTunes’

In ‘HMV’ recently I noticed that ‘Scottish Media Holdings’ had re-issued the first ‘Love and Money’ album onto CD, which was quite bizarre seeing as the racks did not seem to include any issues of the excellent ‘Strange Kind Of Love’ or ‘Dogs In The Traffic’ albums. However this got me wondering...

I was wondering if whether these albums had been re-issued, if they would be available to download from ‘iTunes’ or would they have to be re-issued first on CD by ‘Universal’ before being available. Since ‘current wisdom’ seems to say that all the big record store groups are now in trouble because everybody can get all the albums and songs they want from downloading on the internet, I was wondering what great records from rock past (albums and singles) are still missing from the ‘iTunes’ database. What has everybody tried to look for and what is still missing?

I suspect iTunes doesn't have 'Hazy Lazy Hologram' by Dr Phibes and the House of Wax Equations...and that's just plain wrong.

Great song. Do you remember Wonky Alice too?

There are loads of obscure (and some not so obscure) tracks that I like that aren't on iTunes…

The Millennium - Begin An entire album from the sixties (recently put on our 100 best albums of the sixties thread), brilliant sunshine pop.

The Dylans - Planet love Indie tune from the early 90s. Nothing at all by this group on iTunes.

Paul Haig - Heaven help you now (12" mix) They've got the 7" version and a horrible remix but not the full glory of the 12".

Jason and the Scorchers - Absolutely Sweet Marie Blazing version of the Bob Dylan song, but nothing from the first two LPs on iTunes.

The Slickee Boys - This party sucks or When I go to the beach 80s US garage band. 2 tracks on iTunes but not their greatest.

Power Of Dreams - There I go again Irish group from late 80s/90s. Another group with the same name on iTunes.

Madder Rose - Beautiful John Later stuff available but not this early classic, or the LP it's from.

Sugar Ray - Mean machine Lots available but not this single.

The Muffs - Guilty Ditto.

Mega City Four - Wallflower Only 13 tracks available from their extensive catalogue.

Xymox - Imagination Older and newer stuff available but not the late 80s/early 90s tracks.

Bailter Space - Shine One later LP available form these New Zealand shoegazers, but not the early classics.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes - Little girl so fine Lots available but not this early classic penned by Bruce Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt.

Basement 5 - Silicon chip An LP is available, but not this single.

Banbara - Shack up Total funk classic - but you can get A Certain Ratio's cover version!

The Valentine Brothers - Money's too tight (to mention) The original, as destroyed by Simply Red.

Bunny Wailer - Love fire The original, as destroyed by Simply Red.

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Computer game UK top twenty hit. Nothing at all by this seminal Japanese electronic group.

Freeez - IOU UK number 2 electro hit.

Nothing at all by The Belltower, The Secret (trance act), The Lime Spiders, Fingerprintz, Bag O'Shells, Blessed Ethel, Birdland, The Crystal Set, The Misanthropes, Two People (UK 80s pop duo), The Three O'Clock, Gaspar Lawal, Nova Mob (Grant Hart group after he left Hüsker Dü), The Pollen, Gretschen Hofner, The Scratch Band, Girls At Our Best!, Tiger (the UK indie group), The Daytonas, Viciuos Pink/Vicious Pink Phenomena, Symposium, The Moffs, The Fallout Club (Thomas Dolby and Trevor Herion), Vice Versa (who became ABC) and The Ting Tings.

I could go on. However much music there is on iTunes there will always be more recorded music that isn't on iTunes.

Erm, vaguely.

The Millennium - Begin An entire album from the sixties (recently put on our 100 best albums of the sixties thread), brilliant sunshine pop.

Both fabulous!
