Posted September 20, 200717 yr Winehouse wins at Mobos 20 September, 2007 By Ben Cardew Amy Winehouse enjoyed a triumphant night at the Mobo Awards yesterday, winning best UK female and performing a two-song set. Other winners on the night included Kanye West, who picked up best video for Stronger and best hip hop, Dizzee Rascal, who was named best UK male and Soweto Kinch, who won the re-instated best jazz category. However, Winehouse dominated the newspaper headlines after her set that comprised Tears Dry On Their Own and Me And Mr Jones. The Sun said that the singer was “back to her shambling worst” and The Times called the performance “less than impressive”. However, Metro praised her live performance. The evening ended with MOBO CEO Kanya King leading a tribute to the young children who have been killed this year as the result of gun and knife crime, followed by the award of the Western Union BeMOBO award to the From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation (FBMF). The award was created to recognise the work of an individual or organisation actively involved in positive work within the community.
