If I were one of the Arctic Monkeys, I doubt I'd give a toss what some trinket that mobile phone company had to chuck my way... What does Vodafone have to do with music...? Not a lot, so it's essentially meaningless, it's hardly the recognition of your peers.... I would see a Brit or a Grammie as being rather more significant tbh....

Which brings me to my essential point - are we not in danger of rendering the more significant awards ceremonies (such as the aforementioned Brits and Grammies and one or two others..) rather meaningless by the seemingly endless proliferation of these awards shows popping up all over the place like a rather unwelcome rash on the nether regions...? It's getting to the point when it's like waiting for a bus - missed out on one..?? Dont worry, another one'll be along soon....

I agree. The fact that I didn't even know about the Vodaphone awards until last night kind of gives away the fact of how much they actually mean, had it been the Brit's or the Grammy's there would have been tons of media coverage about them and lots of people would know they were on.

The Arctics won't be bothered at all about the award, I don't think they really care about these award shows. As you say winning a Brit or a Grammy is a higher recognition and the Arctics have won 3 Brits now in two years and on both occasions they've not shown up to the award show and have instead sent recorded acceptance speeches which just take the p*** to be frank and if they take the p*** for winning a Brit then they'll most certainly won't care about winning a Vodaphone award. But saying that, it's nice for them to win this as it shows they're being recognised by the general public and it's nice for the fans too.

I don't really think these award shows mean much though. They're not in any danger of casting the "bigger" award shows into shadow or doubt, the smaller award shows can only really get acts of the moment or 2nd rate artists playing at their award show whereas the Brit's and the Grammy's go for the big stars as such and they pair up artists to do duets and maybe move away from the style they'd normally sing and this creates a lot of extra publicity for the artist which definitely benefits them more.

What Oasis DVD is this? They don't even have one out

As people have said, these awards don't mean a thing at all. And how clever of them to put them on the same night as the much larger and more important for many MOBO's.

Did the Arctic's have an acceptance speech for this award? I'd have liked to have seen it...

Right, the show is broadcast tonight at 8pm on The Hits! (I dare say there'll be a YouTube video appearing soon though)

The acceptance speech was apparently the 4 of them jumping with a skipping rope and then saying they were glad of the award win but they wish they had a better signal where they lived.

I can 100% guarantee that I will NOT be watching "The Hits" at any time during the day, nevermind 8pm.

I'll have to look on YouTube

sometimes something is better than nothing...so i suposse cheers about that ****** award...;)

I've seen the acceptance speech now.

It was very good and very sarcastic. The funniest thing about the whole award show was the fact that I didn't see one act who won a proper award come and actually pick it up from the award ceremony! They were all recorded messages.
