i wouldnt say racist, maybe a good idea like 20 30 years ago but haveing a black interst music awards show in the uk, c'mon thats pointless as most uk urban acts will always look too pop compared to americans. should just move it to las vegas and get black (tiger) beat or hip hop weekly to sponsor it.

Absolutely spot-on. The MOBOs, by their very definition, are racist. No pun intended, but it's very black and white - to applaud or denounce something purely based on the colour of ones' skin - it's racist.

Erm... AFAIK yes it is? :wacko: It's a completely hideous and racist awards ceremony, and highlights complete double standards in UK society showing that black people can be openly racist to whites and it be completely ignored. -_-

I feel like people have this same argument for black history month. If it wasn't for awards like the MOBOs or stations like MTV Base, then these artists who aren't white probably would not be shown.

well that comment is ignorant as well as it is supposed to be for all music of black origin as well such as reggae and jazz (but obv this covers ub40 and katie melua as well :lol:)

 

and anyway loads of white singers do r&b and soul, its just that because they are packaged to a smooth radio / magic pop / the hits aud and so are just seen as pop.

 

most of the boybands are blue-eyed soul groups that all have there routes in new edition (well except westlife which is jimmy logan x 4) and a lot of the max martin stuff has come from funk music

 

and btw steps thats a music of black origin as well, however that probs would have to have its own awards as its a music of black and gayness as obv the black community on the whole dont like those batty boy types

Like I said on another thread, pretty much ALL of contemporary music is based upon Black music... I think the MOBOs are pretty lame tbh, if they're not about awarding Black Artists specifically, then what are they about...? Seeing as how you have a lot of Metal/Hard Rock/Alternative bands basing their sounds round the Blues (Wolfmother), Funk (RHCP), Rap (RATM, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park), Jazz (Mastodon, The Mars Volta) and you have the likes of The Beastie Boys, Alison Goldfrapp, Portishead and many others. In fact, surely the hard, crushing drum beats of your average Thrash or Extreme Metal band harks back to African tribal origins.....

 

"Music of Black Origin" - the title is meaningless, I think we can all agree on this....
