Tonight on the American Idol television program on Fox, host Ryan Seacrest announced that the final four contestants for the 2006 season soon will fly to Graceland. There they will hook up with music industry executive Tommy Mottola for a mentoring session. Priscilla Presley will join them. But, following the producers wishes, we are waiting until they are ready to announce details before we clue you in further on the Graceland visit and the upcoming Elvis-inspired programming on American Idol.

I have taken this from Elvis International, thanks to Jason, President of Elvis International Fan Club;)

30 Million US Viewers!

Last week's Tuesday American Idol show was viewed by 28,670,000 according to the Nielsen TV ratings. I will not be surprised if that number exceeds 30 million this coming Tuesday! With an audience this large, it will probably be the biggest US audience to watch any particular show devoted to or about Elvis since the Aloha From Hawaii special in 1973.

Every 5 to 10 years people need to be reminded why Elvis was so important. People tend to forget things that are not current and you always have a new young generation that have not discovered Elvis. Americans are so busy with work, family, etc, the only way you can really get a large percentage to check out something at one time is when you have something as phenomenally Huge as American Idol.

The bottom line is that with such a huge captive audience this is a win-win situation for Elvis fans and EPE. I really do think the benefits of this collaboration with American Idol will be immeasurable.

I have to confess to not having seen any of this series, but of course I had to watch last nights show because of the Elvis connection :D It was very difficult for me to be objective, in an unbiased way, because I love Elvis so much. I was trying to listen to their vocals and the way they put the song across, but I couldn’t help comparing them to Elvis ;)

For me, personally, the best performance of the night was Chris’ Suspicious Minds, and I couldn’t believe that he was the one they booted off! :o

The worst, for me, was Elliots’ If I Can Dream. It totally lacked the passion of Elvis’ version (just watch the video of this I posted before ;) ), and as for Trouble – he didn’t look like Trouble to me!!

Taylors’ funked up version of In The Ghetto wasn’t too bad but I wasn’t keen on Jailhouse Rock at all.

Katherine, I thought, was okay, but I wasn’t wild about her Can’t Help Falling In Love. Bit too over the top for me

As for the medley – I Just Can’t Help Believin’ is one of my favourite Elvis songs, and I found myself shouting at the screen, I hated their version so much!

It’s great that Elvis’ music was brought to so many viewers on such a top rating American TV show and it was wonderful to see Graceland so heavily featured. For me, that was the best part

Finally, I have to disagree with what Tommy Mottola said when he described Elvis as one of the ultimate American Idols.

He was THE Ultimate American Idol!!
