Posted September 26, 200717 yr ‘CHANNEL 4’ TELEVISION SHOWS OF THE 1980’s TELEVISION MEMORIES 4 At 4:45pm on November 2nd 2007 it will be exactly twenty-five years since the United Kingdom’s forth terrestrial television service started broadcasting to the nation. In light of this anniversary, Channel 4’s digital television service ‘More4’ will be showing a selection of shows from the early days of ‘Channel 4’ including many programmes from the first day of transmission. Whereby the first week in this retro season will give repeat showings to ‘The Comic Strip Presents…’ the excellent ‘Porterhouse Blue’ and the first regular non-YTV episode of ‘Countdown’, the following weeks will most likely see the re-emergence of ‘The Tube’, ‘Drop The Dead Donkey’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’. However as the last three programmes are only my predictions rather than actual fact, it could also be likely that a compilation of material could be broadcast instead, with genres covering anything from music shows from ‘Wired to ‘The White Room and comedy from sketch shows like ‘the Paul Hogan Show’ to series such as ‘Chelmsford 123’. If you had access to Channel 4’s programme archives which shows from the 1980s (an early 1990s) would you like to see again?

September 26, 200717 yr 2 of the best shows ever screened in this country came from Channel 4 in the 80s - Brookside and The Tube.
September 26, 200717 yr Author Yes ‘the Tube’ was good, especially when they did their specials such as ‘A Midsummer’s Night Tube’. However, I would love to see a 1986 episode of ‘the Chart Show’ in full again, the one where you had ‘H.U.D.’ on the show. Actually I remember ‘Wired’ better than ‘the Tube’, even though I bought ‘the Tube’ book. I liked that show, especially for the great ‘Stomp’ theme tune recorded by ‘the Yes/No People’.
September 26, 200717 yr Did anyone used to watch The Word it used to be on late on a Friday night on C4 around 1989-1990 I think, I used to watch it when I was like 15-16, it was trashy but I used to like it..
September 26, 200717 yr Yeah, I watched The Word weekly, although I liked it less when they had filth for filth's sake like the hopefuls on it.

Did you used to watch the ‘Best of The Word’ show with Mark Lamarr, at about 6pm on weekdays? I think it ran a few nights a week, maybe Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The show was only about half an hour long and in addition to showing the ‘best bits’ of that weekend’s show, the show would also feature an unsigned bands slot. I think it was the ‘Luke I Love You’ that became a running joke on the show and would terrorise Mark at ‘unexpected’ moments. I think the song’s ‘lyrics’ went something like “la la la la laaa la,‘la la la la la, luke I love you”.

No I dont think I ever seen that, I like Mark Lemar though , I used to like him doing Buzzcocks, I think he was better than the current chap who does it.
September 27, 200717 yr It was strange with the Word. It was the first time Mark Lamarr showed himself properly...all those mornings on the Big Breakfast never ever showed his caustic wit. What a change!
October 11, 200717 yr Yeah, I watched The Word weekly, although I liked it less when they had filth for filth's sake like the hopefuls on it. i am gonna record it on friday with the tube
