The former soap star, who once battled drug addiction, believes the stars turned to illegal substances in a bid to cope with fame at a young age - just like he did. Donovan, 39, says, "A lot of what happened to me had to do with circumstance. I was only 17 when I walked into a television show that totally changed my life. "Britney Spears is a classic example - a lot of money, became very famous, very young and she just wants to rebel, she wants to f**k up the image, she wants to crash the car and become different, cool. "I was exactly the same... but I can't tell Britney what to do. All I can say is that there's no such thing as being cool, you've got to just be yourself. "But I can understand it, I've been there. Ultimately, Amy Winehouse has made the choice - she wanted to be a pop star, I'd imagine, or a credible artist, whatever. "My advice to Amy or Britney would probably be, if you don't like it, become a plumber."
