October 2, 200717 yr I watched the first one, it got bad reviews in the papers. 'Soft porn for horny teenage boys and old perverts'. The way she just said 'I didn't get raped or abused I love sex and I love money', oh my god I hated that. This is sooo the wrong role for her to play.

October 2, 200717 yr hiding the fact that in 99.9% of cases protitutes are victims of life and do it because they have no self esteem and are desperate to fuel a drug habit. evidence? I'm not saying that's never the case, but at the end of the day the point of the drama IS to point out that not every prostitute does it for self esteem and to feed a habit - they just like it.
October 2, 200717 yr evidence? I'm not saying that's never the case, but at the end of the day the point of the drama IS to point out that not every prostitute does it for self esteem and to feed a habit - they just like it. i dont believe that.... i dont believe that any free thinking intelligent woman would ever sell her body for nothing more then pleasure.
October 2, 200717 yr After all the hype and pomp and, pretty dodgy it has to be said, marketing campaigns, at the end of the day we've got something that is frankly, pretty below average in terms of quality drama.... This sort of thing was done far better in "Band of Gold" (and also the brilliant Channel 4 miniseries "Sex Traffic"), a show which was infinitely more admirable than this tacky, soft core rubbish in the way that it gave a far more realistic and gritty portrayal of prostitution.... Billie Piper may be a good actress, but the way that she's allowed herself to be manipulated and objectified in the marketing campaign for this show is incredibly unfortunate and really doesn't set a very good example...
October 2, 200717 yr Author :o I've just seen the repeat, and it left a nasty taste in my mouth, it should have came with a warning... never eat anything while you snacking, I nearly choked
October 2, 200717 yr I'm not saying that's never the case, but at the end of the day the point of the drama IS to point out that not every prostitute does it for self esteem and to feed a habit - they just like it. Exactly. They're following the blogs of a real life 'call girl' with this drama, so there's no point in changing the plot to put across the message that 'prostituion is bad' - otherwise it would all have nothing whatsoever to do with Belle De Jour.
October 3, 200717 yr I just don't see why prostitution is a subject that has to always be dealt with as gritty - sometimes it's good to see the other side of the coin!
October 3, 200717 yr Exactly. They're following the blogs of a real life 'call girl' with this drama, so there's no point in changing the plot to put across the message that 'prostituion is bad' - otherwise it would all have nothing whatsoever to do with Belle De Jour. Do any of you actually know what the original "Belle De Jour" was...?? Well, let me enlighten you, "Belle De Jour" is a brilliant, classy film directed by one of the genuine geniuses of cinema - Luis Bunuel, it starred the gorgeous Catherine Deneuve as a bored housewife who fantasises about kinky, fetishistic sex. She spends her days working as a prostitute (hence the title - Belle De Jour means literally "lady of the day", as opposed to many other prostitutes who were "Ladies of the night", a very deliberate reversal by Bunuel and one totally lost on the silly bint who stole the film's title as her pseudonym...). Bunuel's film actually says something pretty profound about the hypocrisies of bourgeois, middle-class French society of the time (the film was made in 1967).. I suggest you all watch Bunuel's excellent film and then try and watch this utter trash which has very little to say for itself in comparison.... So, in reality, this whole 'blog' thing (which is more than likely a fake anyway...) has very little to do with the real "Belle De Jour", as in the classic film.....

I have to go with Rob on this one, yeah, you DO get the high class Escort agency girls who earn good money and are protected, BUT, they are the exception to the rule.. The vast majority of prostitutes are feeding drug habits, or else have been abducted from Eastern Europe and sold or tricked into sexual slavery to pay back their "debts" to the EE mafia members who brought them over promising them legit work... If Prostitution was legalised and regulated, then perhaps we would see an end to the vast majority of the exploitation that takes place, but shows like this present a totally false and dangerously distorted view of prostitution in the UK as a whole....

But that's what the show is representing? I didn't see Hannah/Belle stood on a street corner - they're making a show on a certain TYPE of prostitute surely? They're not claiming that EVERY prostitute is like Hanna/Belle - they're just making a show about a particular branch of the 'prostitute industry'. If, as you point our, there are high class agency girls, why not make a show about them?

If, as you point our, there are high class agency girls, why not make a show about them? The problem I have is that the show is making it all out to be a "bit of a laugh", and it's not... That, and the whole marketing campaign which really blurred the lines between the actress herself and the part she was playing... There was one paper down in London that had Billie Piper photographed with the four blokes she has "sex" with in the series and they made it out like it was an actual NEWS STORY (using her real name and not the name of her character in the "headline"..) and not merely an advert or piece of marketing for the show.... I dont call that particularly responsible, there are some seriously dangerous freaks out there, know what I mean...
October 3, 200717 yr So, in reality, this whole 'blog' thing (which is more than likely a fake anyway...) has very little to do with the real "Belle De Jour", as in the classic film..... exactly!.... some businesswoman writing about what men WANT to hear, ignoring the reality of 99.9% of prostitution. it ISNT glamorous, its seedy at any level.

October 6, 200717 yr Belle de Jour Belle de Jour is the nom de plume of a person who claims to have been a London call girl or high class prostitute. Under this banner she maintains a successful blog, Belle de Jour: diary of a London call girl which by 2003 had achieved selection by The Guardian as its blog of the year and has given rise to two books published in both the UK and US. A television series based on the first book was in development with Channel 4 in the UK, but due to budget tightening ITV2 has now picked up the eight-parter, called Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Billie Piper plays the lead role. The series first went to air on Thursday 27 September 2007, and is broadcast as part of ITV2's "XXL Thursday" at 10pm. Belle, until mid-2006, also contributed regularly to the Daily Telegraph.
October 6, 200717 yr Has anyone noticed that when this is on their screen seems slightly fuzzy and distorted?

And I still say the blog is about as convincing as "The Blair Witch Project" was as a documentary....
October 28, 200717 yr I've just recently caught up with this. It's good. I never realised how f*cking hot Billie Piper is. She's a pretty good actress too.
