Posted October 2, 200717 yr PLACEBO PART COMPANY WITH DRUMMER STEVE HEWITT Placebo have parted company with drummer of 11 years, Steve Hewitt, due to personal and musical differences. Brian Molko commented "Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage, and in couples - in this case a triple - people can grow apart over the years. To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realize that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak." The split is amicable and a sad time for both parties. Steve Hewitt replaced Robert Schultzberg behind the drum kit in 1996 whilst the band were promoting Placebo’s eponymous debut album and went on to record the following 4 studio albums ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, ‘Black Market Music’, ‘Sleeping With Ghosts’ and most recently ‘Meds’. Placebo have just returned from the USA where they were part of the high profile ‘Projekt Revolution Tour’ alongside Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. The band are now taking a well earned break. Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal will begin work on Placebo’s 6th studio album next Spring and are in no rush to find an immediate replacement for Steve.
October 2, 200717 yr Sad new! :( I don't even know how to comment on this news. I totally didn't see that coming. Steve seemed to have so much fun the last time I saw them live. Not only that but there were no signs (interviews etc.) of him having the intention to leave or at least no that I know of :( SAD SAD SAD :(
October 2, 200717 yr  I so did not expected something like this... But,... Don't really know what to say... I was off the net for few days, and now come to see some good news, for example plans for new album and so on, and I see this! :o First I thought it's a rumor, but then I saw it on official site, and now everything is clear to me... I don't even know how to recieve that news. Looking from one side, nobody died, Placebo will continue their work, but looking from other side, it won't be the same without Steve for sure. Lately I really liked him, and also Stefan, which is great because firstly I was only looking for Brian... About the replace for Steve, I don't think anybody can be that good imo. It could be the great drummer, but that won't be Steve and that's not the same. I'm wondering what could happen in the band that they decided that. But, if you look back just a bit, you can see that there wasn't everything perfect. In most interviews there were only Stef and Brian, Steve was like on the side almost everytime, and I didn't like that fact... Also, their official site didn't have update for a quite long time, and that was unusual also. Plus all that stories about Brian with his solo project... They are talking about new album... I'm sure that'll be something different. I hope I'll love it also. I know Brian and Stefan are the main members in the band, but for me Steve was great also. Don't know what else I want to add, I'm a bit confused with my thoughts about this...
October 2, 200717 yr Author I think it's a real sad loss, it will be strange to see a replacement but I won't judge until I see what happens next. I hope they survive this and still maintain their magic. :( On the other hand, it's pleasing to see at least some info on a new album.
October 4, 200717 yr Wow that was really unexpected indeed :( Aren´t there news of a replacement then?
October 5, 200717 yr No - that's what they said. They are in no rush to find replacement. And just to add one more thing. That fact on the end which Brian said about new album, to me just sound like he wanted to put one good news after that shock we found out... :(
October 6, 200717 yr Author It was actually the writer of the article who said about the album. :P But at least this isn't the end. :D
October 6, 200717 yr Yes, but the writer couldn't know it if somebody didn't tell him. :P Yep, that's a good thing.
October 8, 200717 yr Oh my god. D: I'm so upset right now. I haven't been as into Placebo as I was, thus not looking at news and whatnot, but I come into the forum and the first thing I see is this? :( It won't be the same, but I hope they can find the best replacement they can.
October 14, 200717 yr Well, I have waited for so long to put my post here, that I totally forgot the main aim. I was so upset but for the first time in my life I didn't cry for something which is so important for me as PLACEBO are. Anyway, I read the following: They have asked STEVE how he imagines his life in 10 years...and his answer: "To be here again" and by "here" he has ment PLACEBO. However, we'll never know why this happend but we can only guess that it's because of the only, well knowned "little man" who does " the biggest problems" , Mr.Brian Molko. It's sad for me to say this because Brian Molko is the man in my life :( , but if you think a little bit more on Steve's words you'll find that I am telling the truth... and for the first time in my life AGAIN I hope that I am wrong. WE LOVE U STEVE.
October 15, 200717 yr Hm... You think it's Brian's fault because Steve left the band. I don't know, but I think also we'll never know what's 100% true. I'd just like to hear what Steve and also Stefan would say. I like them all, so I can't be mad at any of them in this situation. I'd also like that Brian said something more... And now again all is quiet, they don't give any news or updates and I hate that feeling of not know something... :(
October 16, 200717 yr Having a drummer quit is really not that big a deal for a band to be honest, it's certainly nowhere near as serious or potentially disastrous as losing a frontperson.... Placebo will prevail, they had a different drummer before Steve anyway....
