Only watched the documentary and not the concert yet. So far the only time I've spotted myself is when they say "Del and Babydaddy's moms are in the crotch pit tonight" and the camera pans round quickly. Too quickly, luckily!

I was all over the last DVD so am glad to not be cringing at myself on this one.

Here's a review of the dvd.......

Scissor Sisters Starring In HURRAH – A Year Of Ta-Dah DVD Review:

Hurrah – A Year Of Ta-Dah is “The story of five sisters searching for something they lost, and finding that all they needed was each other.” Bit of a big claim for a something as simple as a music DVD, but the Sisters certainly try to pack this DVD to back up their bold claim. The DVD is choc -full of features that lasts for a whopping 185 minutes and, as if that wasn’t enough, includes a bonus CD featuring a selection of their hits which were recorded live at the 02 in London, all for the standard DVD price.

Live at the 02, London:-

First up is the whole gig in all its delicious, camp glory. Jake and Co strut and pose their way through 19 of their singalong hits. They perform a good selection of crowd-pleasers from both albums. The show is typically flamboyant, colourful and very, very camp. Very much like their previous DVD so far. However, you can’t help but feel that Jake Shears steals the limelight just a little too much, unlike their previous DVD. It would have been nice to see a bit more of the other four members, in particular Ana Matronic, who has bags of personality and wit but doesn’t get the chance to shine – she’s just becoming Jakes backing singer and that’s a waste.

Although the audience are obviously enjoying themselves, the largest cheers are reserved for songs from their first album, listen to the crowd reaction to the first few chords of “Comfortably Numb”, they go absolutely ballistic! And the beautiful and dream-like “Return to Oz” (a fans favourite) sounds every bit as magical live as it does on their album. The show ends on a high with “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing”, guaranteed to get everybody up on their feet and singing along. Unfortunately the new songs are just not as good as their debut, and the crowd don’t go as wild, even though they had a long time to get used to them. This is accompanied by show-man (or should that be show-off?) Jake stripping down to a teeny diamante encrusted bodysuit. As if that wasn’t enough, we are then “treated” to the sight of his pert little butt as he walks off stage. Perhaps a step too far for some, but will no doubt be appreciated by many!

A Year Of Ta-Dah:-

An hour long documentary comprised of backstage footage, bizarre TV appearances and some of the strangest fan videos you’ll ever see.

One of the highlights of this section is the Scissors being interviewed by Scotlands own Lorraine Kelly on The Paul O’Grady Show. Lorraine can do “camp” very well and appears to be in her element with these guys. Other highlights include footage of the Scissors at some well-known festivals, including T in the Park, performing in front of thousands of appreciative fans. Some of this documentary is a bit uneven, and only really gets into its stride in the last twenty minutes when it has more of a narrative. Before that it can feel a bit like they’ve given a mate a camcorder and told them to film EVERYTHING they see.

Videos:-

A nice fun look into the making of the promo videos for I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, She’s My Man, Land of a Thousand Words and Kiss You Off, and just how much work it took to do the puppetry, etc for them.

Extras:-

Here we are treated to a selection of songs from a live acoustic gig for Capital Radio – Scissor Sisters unplugged if you like. This is a particular treat – it’s nice to see and hear them without all the bright lights and glitz and glam – and they sure sound good.

After watching the DVD in its entirety I am struck by three things, that could detract from your enjoyment:-

1. Yes, we ALL know that three of you are gay – get over it! Yes, we all know you are gay, but why remind us of this fact, on numerous occasions! We enjoy you for what you do and don’t care, this is the 21st Century and thankfully most of us have moved on from caring!

2. You’ll loose count of the number of times that “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing” features in various sections throughout the DVD. You’d better love that song, if you don’t the DVD will be getting smashed in frustration.

3. Jake – you’re a highly entertaining and charismatic frontman, but its not just about you! Give the others a chance!

However if you love the Scissor Sisters experience this is a perfect stocking-filler, and is sure to be on all Scissors fans list. As well as the main feature, the extras offered on this DVD are well worth watching. Most music DVDs consist solely of a live gig with very little in the way of extras – perhaps a photo gallery if you’re lucky. But this DVD is well constructed and contains many interesting and worthwhile features. At a fraction over 3 hours running time this could have been an exercise in overkill, packed with filler, and could easily have dragged in places, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised just how enjoyable the whole package is, not just for die-hard fans.

Let’s just hope the Sisters can build on such a quality package for their next album, and get back to the heights they reached on their debut, and we can gloss over some of the filler on Ta-Dah! They obviously love to entertain and they certainly do just that with their own unique brand of flamboyant flair. A pretty impressive package – one that Jake himself would be proud of!

12:55pm – 2:00pm T4: SCISSOR SISTERS: LIVE AT THE O2 ARENA

Recorded live at London's O2 Arena, the ever-flamboyant Scissor Sisters perform their unique brand of pop, taken from multi-platinum selling albums Ta-Dah and Scissor Sisters.

I would still recommend the dvd though, obviously. ;)
