October 6, 200717 yr again i totally agree with your 'worst acts' the year without a classic..... 76 was DIRE, with the best tracks (youve highlighted) being ok at best. i still like the wurzels though... 'oooh arr, oooh arr'...
October 6, 200717 yr Some of the hits I like from '76 : Be-Bop Deluxe - "Ships In The Night" Fox - "S-S-S-Single Bed" Cliff Richard - "Devil Woman" Sensational Alex Harvey Band - "Boston Tea Party" Can - "I Want More" Sex Pistols - "Anarchy In The UK" (though it's overrated!) Oh, and "New Rose" by The Damned though it sadly just missed the Top 50.
October 6, 200717 yr 1976 certainly was not a vintage year for music. No wonder Punk came along as it badly needed to happen - All the great glam Rock acts of the early 1970s were fading away out of the charts &/or into tax exile. The progressive/Heavy Rock music was reaching it's most pretentious and the charts were full of dull lightweight music. Example Paul McCartney's Wings had two monster yet utterly lightweight singles "Silly Love Songs" & "Let Em In" this year says it all really. A bit like the music industry needs another Rock n Roll revolution right now...
October 9, 200717 yr 1976 certainly was not a vintage year for music. A bit like the music industry needs another Rock n Roll revolution right now... tbh i disagree rock n roll revolutions have always been 'guitar group' lead... merseybeat, psychedelia, glam, punk, new wave, indie (orig) britpop, todays 'indie' is occupying that ground... so there cant be a rock n roll revolution, its already here..... pretty lame in comparison, but i cant see anything being possible to revolutionalise music. imho the current 'indie' flavour has made the mid 00's the best era for music since the early 80's, but guitar groups playing pp music has been my favoured style ever since the beatles created the 'pop group template' back in the early 60's. but in saying that, i love trance more then 'traditional pop groups' atm... :)
