did anyone like these doctor films better than the carry on doctor films or did you think they are just the same kinda thing completely???

what did people think back then when they were made?? were the doctor films with James Robertson Justice as Sir Lancelot Spratt, Dirk Bogarde and Leslie Phillips thought as better than the carry on films (esp the doctor one)?

and what were the tv shows like and seeing as they had many various pythons and goodies writing for them, like john cleese, Graham Chapman and Graeme Garden , were they surrreal like an old uk version of scrubs???

From what I remember the TV series was a fairly straightforward sit-com and wasn't weird in the slightest.

The films were much more gentle that the Carry Ons especially when compared with the later Carry Ons.

well the later carry on were trying to do confessions sex comedy rudeness werent they. but v v badly

I have seen the films regularly, but I do not think that I ever sat down to watch the television series (the last one was broadcast in the early 1990s if I remember correctly).

On the other hand, I do remember watching ‘Only When I Laugh’ a lot when I was younger, though I tend to give that show a miss now when it is repeated on TV. I do not think ‘Only When I Laugh’ has aged as well as ‘Rising Damp’ even though it has an equally impressive cast of actors.

only when i laugh is a good name for a comedy even if its an itv comedy it will be generally not funny (apart to my dad who will watch any old stuff  )
