Just over half of all new jobs have gone to foreigners since Labour came to power, figures obtained by a Conservative MP have revealed.

Less than a month after Gordon Brown pledged to guarantee a “British job for every British worker”, a league table of 12 EU countries has put Britain in 11th place for making sure its own citizens find jobs.

James Clappison, the Conservative MP who revealed the figures, claimed that “this is in no small measure due to our migration policies and the issuing of work permits.”

Why do you think foreigners have been more successful than British people at finding jobs? Do these figures matter? What can be done to get the British unemployed into work?

Maybe our education system is so bad that migrants are better qualfied for these jobs

.maybe they are not afraid of a little hard work?

maybe they are not content to sit on their arses and claim benefits all their lives

most foreign workers are brought here by organised employment teams, providing them cheap accomodation to use as a base. with this in mind, they can afford to earn lower wages as they dont need as much money as residence here do. they are often transported by the gang leaders to their places of employment too.

so yes, foreigners can undercut our lads wages and can viably afford to work in mainly menial jobs for lower wages.

however..... on last nights 'wife swap' the injustices of the benefits system was all too graphically highlighted. this lazy lesbian woman who likes to sit on her fat arse all day , smoking, watching tv/dvd's was getting more money in benefits then a damn hard working farmer who was working 15-6 hour days, 7 days a week! how tf is THAT right?

The indigenous population don't want to do certain types of jobs and consider it beneath them to be doing them so if foreign labour is filling these jobs then I see no problem

London Transport recruited people from the Carribean to come and be underground workers and bus conductors in the 1960's because the indigenous population considered that type of work to be beneath them so its nothing new

Attitudes need to change in England, any job is better than no job

I'd like to add something that is happening here in Australia.

The same excuse is used about "Australians" not wanting to do menial jobs.

It's a lie. It was found in a lot of cases that these jobs weren't even advertised locally but placed in international employment rags and with

overseas agencies.

Rob what you said is so true. I'm sure if local Brits like local Aussies were offered cheap accomodation and a lift to and from work everyday they would all be lining up for the work too. Unfortunately the locals have to make their own way at their own expense. Not fair if you ask me.

Half of all new jobs? How is that possible? :o Well yeah I think it's because they're willing to work for a lower wage and stilll get on with the work.

Probably because the survey takes into accout ALL of use but only the foreign workers that WANT to come here.

If you compared all of our workers in the Uk and then ALL the workers from say Hungary and Poland I doubt there would be the difference, infact we'd be seen favourably.

I applied for a job on an australian cruise ship which was advertised in Australia, however the wages were so low for 6 months work without a day off that I declined it, the agency involved said they dont employ Australians because they have to pay tax which makes the even low wages lower, you get no super and as I said before your expected to work six months without a day off and with no holiday pay at the end of it, no wonder people from low income countries are the only people willing to do jobs like this.

benefits system.... again if people are getting paid as much or more to sit on their arseholes in front of their tv then why should they work?... many on benefits couldnt get a job that paid more, where as foreigners in subsidised accomodation, transport, not the living costs of indiginous people then of course they are happy to work here for what is by our standards a low wage.

foreigners are often ripped of by dogey outfits who pay them less than the minimum wage, and they often share a room with 10 other people, so don't think they are subsidised, they pay for it, But we do need to reform the benefit system so that when people return to work they don't loose all their benefit straight away, and we need to make sure they are not less well off when working, than when they are on benefit

thats only partly true, they are ripped off in some cases, however they are still there by CHOICE.

the local marquee hire company has bought a house on my road and has eastern europeans that work for them living there, its NOT overcrowded and everything is above board.

We are all forgetting that eastern europeans are legally allowed to work in the UK and are entitled to the same rights as UK citizens, they must not be discriminated against in favour of UK citizens, just as we have the same rights across the EU
