October 9, 200717 yr think ive already answered that one :) But it will be decided on the basis of legality, if it succeeds and she has her womb cut out do you really believe that it would be an isolated one off case ? it won't, this goes ahead then the floodgates are open and hundreds of these operations will end up being performed on the grounds of "it was ok for their daughter so I want it done to mine too" and then watch dozens of legal test cases over having stuff done to people with other illnesses in the name of "compassion" If this was a one off isolated case and was never to happen again it might slightly change my way of thinking but it won't, this succeeds then the floodgates are open

I realise that I have made arguments for abortion on the basis of Pro Choice, but that's a different issue, no one is FORCING any woman to have an abortion or forcing them to NOT have an abortion.. This is not a simple issue, and for anyone to claim that it is a simple issue, well, they're just not seeing the bigger picture IMO.... This whole thing is going to require someone very wise and very knowledgeable to sit in judgement, and disabled rights advocates MUST be involved in this process... This is NOT just about one girl, one family.....

October 9, 200717 yr So what do the people who disagree with the parents suggest? These parents want what is best for their daughter. They are not trying to make life easy for themselves - I doubt there is anything about their lives that is easy. Drugs that supress menstruation carry a high risk of thrombosis especially in the imobile ..... surely this isn't good for her? This is a very sad case, but a relatively rare one. I can't see the panic about "floodgates" opening.

I think you're wrong here mate.. I think this is a precedence-setting case which could turn out to be as big as Roe Vs Wade. Seems pretty clear to me that this is a test case....

Seems pretty clear to me that this is a test case.... how? so what if others want it doing? if its done with the carers backing and possibly social services and medical support then why not? people routinely have oporations for all sorts of things that not so long ago would have been frowned upon.
