Posted October 7, 200717 yr Sugababes score a second week as the UK No.1 despite a surge from Fedde Dutch producer Fedde LeGrand’s collaboration with Danish singer Ida Corr has risen three spots to No.2 after debuting inside the top 40 at No.5 last week. However, the dance track did not have enough power to overhaul About You Now by the Sugababes which had its physical release added this week and easily stayed at No.1. Let Me Think About It marks a rarity for a dance act in that it gives Fedde a second top 2 hit and a third top 10 hit, this perhaps proving that he is here to stay. Shayne Ward holds up well with No U Hang Up/If That’s OK With You which slides just a place on its second week in the chart to No.3. Also down a place is 50 Cent’s Ayo Technology while Plain White T’s climb back up a place to No.5 with Hey There Delilah. Sean Kingston’s former No.1 Beautiful Girls is down to No.6 while Mark Ronson scores his third top 10 hit of 2007 with Zutons cover Valerie. It is also Amy Winehouse’s joint biggest hit as Rehab peaked at No.7 last year. Mark’s biggest hit remains the Smiths cover Stop Me which reached No.2 in April. Canadian singer Leslie Feist shows what the power of an advert can do at No.8. 1234 missed out on the top 100 when physically released 3 months ago but the Apple iPod commercial has given a huge boost to the profile of Feist and her album has been increasing in popularity too. The song has so far moved 40-16-8 in the top 40 though this is likely to be its peak as it is now dropping slowly on iTunes. Scouting For Girls have had an unlikely success with the indie-pop anthem She’s So Lovely which has been in the lower echelons of the top 10 for 5 weeks now. Kanye West rounds off the top 10 with his former No.1 Stronger which falls three places. The top 10 therefore includes 4 American acts, 4 British acts, a Canadian and a Dutch/Danish duo. Much more diverse than a few months ago when America dominated the UK chart. 8 other songs join the top 40 this week. Stereophonics have a flop by their standards as comeback single It Means Nothing can only reach No.12 on physical release. Elvis is in at No.15 with King Creole, his latest re-release and the series is showing incredible consistency with the last 6 singles reaching either No.14 or No.15. Manic Street Preachers can usually rely on a high peak on their first week with their singles but the download rules have changed that as fans will already have Indian Summer on the album hence its No.22 entry point. Kate Nash disappointingly follows up the 5 week No.2 hit Foundations with the fairly lacklustre Mouthwash which climbs to No.23 after its physical release. Foundations is just 2 places lower after 4 months on the countdown. Mika scores his 4th top 40 hit of the year with Happy Ending, an uplifting ballad which is the final official track on the album (before Ring Ring, the bonus track). Surging from No.86 it seems likely to give Mika his 4th top 10 hit of 2007 too. American sisters Aly (18) and AJ (16) have been having success in their home country for a few years but they finally make the UK chart with the infectious Potential Break-Up song which debuts at No.33 this week. At the very least this should be in the top 15 next week, hopefully in the top 10. Lethal Bizzle’s new single Police On My Back joins the top 40 at No.37 while Good Life, the follow up to Kanye West’s No.1 single Stronger, debuts at No.40. Climbers in the top 40 this week come from Hoosiers (36-34), Phil Collins (22-20), Peter Bjorn & John (14-13) and Jennifer Lopez who climbs to No.11 after the physical release of Do It Well. She has missed the top 10 twice before with Feelin’ So Good (#15, 2000) and I’m Glad (#11, 2003) though neither of these were the lead single from a new album. Over in the album chart Bruce Springsteen goes in at No.1 with Magic while Katie Melua follows up two No.1 albums with Pictures which enters at No.2. Last week’s No.1 from Foo Fighters slides back to No.3 while James Blunt dips to No.4. Other new entries in the top 10 come from Babyshambles (#5), Annie Lennox (#7) and Bob Dylan (#10) while Gabrielle debuts at No.11 with her comeback albums Always. Sugababes should easily secure a third week at No.1 next week with About You Now while their new album Change could give them the double should it debut at No.1. Aly & AJ are the only major physical release out on the 8th October and Potential Break Up Song should move into the top 10 next week. Sam and Amanda, the runners up of Big Brother also release their cover of Aqua’s Barbie Girl under the alias Samanda though it is unlikely to be a big hit if other Big Brother contestants’ music careers are anything to go by.
