October 8, 200717 yr Alex Turner's gang win fan-voted award 2 hours ago Arctic Monkeys have been voted the best band in the world today by the British public. The Sheffield band were awarded the accolade this afternoon (October 8), beating off competition from The Killers, Foo Fighters, Muse[/] and [a]U2. The band were also nominated in the 'best album' category at the Q Awards, but lost out to Amy Winehouse, who took home the gong with her 'Back To Black' album. Elsewhere at the awards, Kate Nash won the 'best newcomer' award, Muse won the 'best live band' prize, Kaiser Chiefs won the 'best video' award for the promo for their single 'Ruby' and The Enemy were named 'best new act'. During the ceremony, New Order bassist Peter Hook was close to tears as he presented an honorary award to the children of Tony Wilson, the late Factory Records boss, who died earlier this year Source: NME.com I'm very shocked they won this! :o But still it's a great award to win! :D ^_^

October 8, 200717 yr Are Muse realy that good live? They did'nt have that much competition though did they  Foos and U2 were just never gonna win ^_^ Great news! :P Muse are apparently VERY good live. I've never seen them, but all their gigs reviews and everything have praised the band loads for their live efforts so they must be good. I dunno. The Foos and U2 normally do very good in this sort of stuff and I thought the Foos might win tbh!
October 8, 200717 yr Muse are meant to be excellent live but then again so are Foo Fighters, I would have preferred them to win I'm not surprised AM won this award as they came back with a very strong second album
October 9, 200717 yr Author muse are a great live band .i saw them a few years ago n they were really good.i suposse that these days they are even better technically (plus the wholo show scene) but to tell you the truth i prefer the gigs in smaller venues n in that case arctics are the best band.no lights , no show , no fireballs , ballons n everything...just the band , the music n the people... even in stadium gigs i prefer the non show bands ...i cant get U2 cause i saw them live with all these screens m lemons but somehow the feelinng , emotion was gone with all these things from the other hand i saw oasis or REM in big gigs without all that c**p n the gigs were amazin...just the music n the crowd
October 9, 200717 yr IT WAS a Favourite Worst Nightmare for organisers of the Q Awards yesterday – when they misspelt the name of ARCTIC MONKEYS on their gong. They managed an amazing coup at getting the reclusive band to turn up to the glittering bash at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. But then they went and ruined it – by calling the band ARTIC Monkeys on their award for Best Act In The World Today. I think someone will be sent to the back of the class this morning. Surely any music mag worth its salt would know their correct name? Despite being among the first to arrive for the ceremony, Arctic Monkeys made sure they made a fashionably late entrance. ALEX TURNER, JAMIE COOK, MATT HELDERS and NICK O’MALLEY turned up at a punctual midday for the lunchtime do. But they ensured their time-keeping looked suitably rock ’n’ roll – by heading to a pub over the road for a couple of pints first. They needed some dutch courage before accepting their gong in front of a host of musical legends including SIR PAUL McCARTNEY, THE VERVE, IAN BROWN and, er, SHIRLEY BASSEY. But it was only when they walked off stage with the trophy that they noticed the spelling error. A source said: “Thankfully they saw the funny side but they gave the organisers a load of stick.” Luckily the gaff was smoothed over after cheeky monkey Alex got the chance to reunite his gran with her old pal – Shirley Bassey. The Arctic Monkeys frontman, pictured second from right with Matt, Nick, Shirley and Sir Paul, started an unlikely friendship with the Welsh diva after the band performed her hit Diamonds Are Forever at Glastonbury in June. But it turns out her relationship with his family runs even further back. A close source told me: “Alex’s gran met Shirley backstage at a concert in Sheffield where she was working years ago. Apparently his gran gave Shirley some alcohol to gargle to soothe her sore throat. “So Alex seized the chance to surprise his gran and got Shirley on the phone to say hi. She was thrilled.” Ah, bless. While everyone else got down to partying, Alex was thinking of his gran. Whatever People Say he is – he’s a big softy at heart. October 9, 200717 yr They have denied anything is going on between them, but Arctic Monkey's frontman Alex Turner and gorgeous T4 presenter Alexa Chung have a lot to explain after last night. The pair were all over each other as they celebrated his band scooping the Best Band In The World Today gong at the Q Awards. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc109/gwirith/chungalexBIG0910_468x638.jpg While the other lads - Jamie Cook, Matt Helders and Nick O'Malley - celebrated with a no expense spared feast of sushi at Nobu. But Alex sneaked off to meet Alexa, and they all hooked up at the Met Bar at around 11pm. Meanwhile, Kelly Osbourne, who would probably class herself as a hardcore drinker was spectacularly outgunned when it came to drinking with the rest of the Arctic Monkeys last night. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc109/gwirith/kelly2LL_468x300.jpg
