In a New York-style presentation, iconic images from the gallery's historic collection - including these familiar faces - are being projected on to the building each night in a kaleidoscopic montage.

The slideshow features more than 60 well-known images and works of art including Australian landscapes, impressionist works and pop art.

Officially launched on Tuesday, the rolling light display appears on the southern facade of the five-storey gallery overlooking Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin and has drawn astonished crowds.

Gallery spokesman Todd Hayward said the building comes alive from 6pm to midnight with the lightning demonstration designed by Sydney-based outdoor visual display experts Electric Canvas.

"

It's a unique and different project aimed at reinvigorating the National Gallery and making people aware of key works of art after hours," Mr Hayward said.

EIN Note: The Andy Warhol "Elvis" artwork has been one of the Australian National Gallery's most popular attractions. So popular in fact, that the image has adorned the side of Canberra buses promoting the Gallery.

NBC are closing down their famous studios where Elvis recorded his ’68 Comeback Special. NBC, the host of many TV shows, is moving to away from its legendary Burbank Studios at 3000 West Alameda Avenue in Los Angeles to a new development opposite Universal Studios and Universal Studios Hollywood theme park, leaving the Burbank site open for sale and redevelopment.

Almost 40 years ago, Elvis filmed the groundbreaking TV special Elvis for NBC at Burbank, which later become known as the ’68 Comeback Special. Recently the studios have been the home of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

Redevelopment makes me think of demolition and the Burbank studios were very important to Elvis in his Comeback performance B)
