A 23-year-old man has been given a six-month curfew after trying to intimidate Coronation Street star Beverley Callard in a road rage incident.

Imran Alam chased the actress's Mercedes convertible over a period of two miles and threw objects at her vehicle. The incident happened as Callard was driving to Granada Studios for work.

Alam did not turn up for his trial at Manchester Magistrates' Court last week, claiming that he was ill. However, the case went ahead without him, and the court heard how Callard was 'cut up' and forced to brake heavily.

"It must be absolutely terrifying for people to endure this sort of behaviour," court chairman Neil Farnell said, as he sentenced Alam yesterday. "It will not be tolerated."

As well as the curfew, which stops Imran from leaving his home between 10pm and 7am, he was also given seven points on his licence and told to pay £350 costs.

Alam's lawyer Audrey Martin said that an appeal would be lodged. Speaking outside court, Imran said that he was "disgusted" by the court's decision and denied knowing who Callard was, explaining: "I have never watched Coronation Street in my life."

:o How scary would that be!

 At this

Police have issued a warning asking fans of Coronation Street to not call them during the soap's advert breaks because they are too busy.

Forces have been swamped with calls during the show's breaks because avid soap addicts wait until there is a break in the programme before they pick up the phone to report crimes.

Grampian Police in particular have found it a real problem and have released a plea asking people to call them during quieter times so that they can deal with the enquiries more effectively.

Manager Karen McMillan said: "Don't try during the ad breaks of popular programmes like Coronation Street. Everyone else is doing the same thing."

Now that there is a Corrie thread, I can finally be horrible about it LOL

I do actually really like it. and Steve is my fave

But im sick of it winning all the awards, and everyone making out it is really really amazing, it is only good!!!

Former Bad Girls actor Jack Ellis has joined the case of Coronation Street as Weatherfield's new bookie on the block.

The 52-year-old – who played G-Wing's twisted screw Jim Fenner for six years – will appear alongside ex-The Bill actor Matthew Crompton (PC Sam Harker) as father and son, Harry and Dan Mason.

The pair are to run the Rosamund Street betting shop, a new set for which has just been built at Manchester's Granada Studios.

A source for the soap told DS: "It'd be a fair bet to say that Harry and Dan both have a roving eye for the ladies. However, they're always sailing close to the wind as far as the law is concerned."

Ellis is due to begin filming for the ITV soap tomorrow and will first appear on screen on Monday, December 3.

Coolness. I always liked him on Bad Girls.

I thought the new bookie was meant to be releated to Becky- I must have heard it wrong.

The wedding that never happened is now back on as Coronation Street's Sarah and Jason walk down the aisle again – but will it be second time lucky for the pair?

At the end of the month, Weatherfield's Sarah Platt and Jason Grimshaw – Tina O'Brien and Ryan Thomas – attempt to tie the knot again, while, unbeknown to the church congregation, Sarah's brother, David (Jack P. Shepherd) is planning to kill himself.

Determined not to let anything ruin her special day, Sarah finds David's suicide note addressed to their mum, Gail (Helen Worth), and rips it up. With a contingency plan in mind, however, David phones his mum to tell her what he's about to do. But when her voicemail kicks in, David leaves what he intends to be his final message, signing off with "you're finally going to get what you always wanted".

As Sarah walks down the aisle, David drives over the edge of the canal bank into the water. When the police arrive on the scene, they soon make their way to the church where they inform Gail what's happened to her son.

Sarah, however, dismisses the news as one of David's jokes and gives a seemingly concerned Jason an ultimatum: "Jason, you know as well as I do… Do we let him win? Do we let him stop us? No, we've got to carry on..."

But what will Jason's reaction be? Is this another opportunity for him to exit stage left from the church?

Weatherfield's wedding of the year airs on Wednesday, October 31, when viewers will finally discover whether Sarah and Jason actually become man and wife during an hour-long special.

Coronation Street bosses want Bruno Langley to return to the soap on a full-time basis.

Langley, 24, who plays Todd Grimshaw in the Manchester-based soap, has recently returned for 12 episodes to feature in the wedding storyline concerning his onscreen brother Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien).

He first appeared in the programme in 2000 and departed four years later. He has starred in Doctor Who and Dalziel And Pascoe since leaving the show.

Corrie's executive producer Kieran Roberts told The Sun: "We’ve been very impressed with Bruno's performances and the writers will be coming up with ideas to bring Todd back.

"He’s a terrific actor and it would be great for the Grimshaws to have him back for good. There’s a lot of scope for storylines for Todd because of his history with Jason, Eileen and Sarah."

Ryan Thomas backs the move to get Langley to return to the cobbles.

He commented: "I talked to Bruno about this while we were making the documentary Family Album: The Grimshaws and it makes sense for him to return. He's interested in the idea.

"Jason and Todd have a great bond as brothers and after all family is what Corrie is all about. Jason has got past all the gay thing now - he’s not scared of it anymore - and he wants to see more of his brother."

Former Mile High and Hollyoaks actress Lucy Evans has joined the cast of Coronation Street as Violet Wilson's sexy minx of a sister, Lauren.

Lauren arrives in Weatherfield after spending time abroad in Ayia Napa and immediately sets her sights on the eye-candy of the Street.

A Corrie source told DS: "Little is known about Lauren's past but it's safe to say that Violet's not pleased about her turning up or sticking around."

They added: "She's going to be a little minx and most definitely a hit with the lads. But there's something standing between Violet and Lauren which is preventing them from being the sisters they should be."

Lucy's, whose first scenes are due to transmit on Monday, November 26, played the character of Deb in Mile High back in 2004 and Hollyoaks' Rachel Osborne. She has also made appearances in Holby City, Doctors and ITV's The Stepfather.
