Coronation Street producers are looking for a new love for Jack Duckworth, a report has claimed.

 

Show boss Kim Crowther will lead a meeting this week to make a decision after the character's wife Vera died on Friday, according to the People.

 

A source told the paper: "Friday's episode was a blockbuster but the powers-that-be now need to find Jack a new love interest.

 

"He has always prided himself on being bone idle at home so he'll be totally lost without Vera."

 

Bookmakers have also opened books on the subject, with Betty Williams the 2-1 favourite and Doreen Fenwick next at 3-1.

 

If they're going to pair Jack off with anyone - it has to be the Titian Topped Trollop of the show (Rita in case you hadn't guessed). He did, after all, make a play for her in the 70's.

I honestly don't think they should replace Vera. Jack reminds me of the type of person who after losing the love of their life, they would never find anyone else. That was like my nan, my grandad died nearly 21 years ago and she has never been with anyone else.

 

If there was to be a love interest - it should be next year, so it gives Jack time to grieve. I know its only a soap, but it would be unrealistic after last weeks episodes for him to then find someone within the next 6 months

i watched corrie tonight as i liked the show years ago and vera was a legend but i was disgusted with her exit it was not a tear jerker and they should have done better,the writers should be shot fir letting a legend like vera go out in such a waek way

 

I think we also have to take into consideration how much Liz Dawn could do herself. If she acted out some kind of heartattack, it would have probably brought on a real one. It was gentle and was a contrast to Mike's death last year
