David Platt’s new girlfriend is to reveal she is pregnant in Coronation Street.

Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) confides her secret to Gail (Helen Worth), but admits that she is not sure whether the baby is David's (Jack P Shepherd) or a previous lover called Matthew.

Gail raises the possibility of an abortion, telling Tina: "I’m not trying to tell you what to do, and you’re completely within your rights to tell David about the baby.

“If you do, I’ll support you. But I have to tell you, I worry about what it will do to him. And if he hears about a termination, I fear for his mental health.”

Gail's daughter Sarah (Tina O'Brien) gave birth to daughter Bethany at the age of 13.

A Street insider said: “[Tina] believes in her heart of hearts that David could be the dad but she’s frightened about what his reaction is going to be.”

The 20-year-old actress recently vowed to continue attending drama school despite landing a role in the ITV1 soap.

Coronation Street actor Rob James-Collier has quit after just under two years with the ITV soap over fears of being "typecast".

The 31-year-old, who has played Weatherfield's Liam Connor since 2006, reportedly revealed his intention to leave only days before filming his on-screen wedding to Maria Sutherland (Samia Smith).

A source at the soap told the News of the World: "Nobody was expecting this and it's bad news because Liam has become hugely popular with fans. He won 'Sexiest Male' at the British Soap Awards and they had big things planned for him.

"They wanted the Carla-Liam-Maria thing to really step up in pace, with him finally cheating on his girl with his sister-in-law. It would have given them a brilliant storyline which could have bubbled away until Christmas."

They added: "He says that he doesn't want to be typecast."

A spokeswoman confirmed to DS this morning: "We've known for some time that Rob would be leaving at the end of his current contract. It's given the writers time to pen a really good exit storyline for his character, Liam.

"Rob will remain filming with us until around October and he will bow out on screen at the end of the year."

At around the same time last year, Sean Gallagher, who played Rob's on-screen brother Paul Connor, announced his decision to quit the soap after only five months in the role.

Rob will become part of the growing list of characters to leave the soap. The last few months have seen the departures of Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth), Tina O'Brien (Sarah Louise Platt), Wendi Peters (Cilla Battersby-Brown), Bruce Jones (Les Battersby), Samantha Seager (Jodie Morton) and Zaraah Abrahams (Joanne Jackson).

Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper) has taken a 12-month extended break from the soap but will return at the end of this year, while Julia Haworth (Clare Peacock) is due to go on maternity leave, with her baby due in July.

This month also sees the departure of on and off-screen lovers Rupert Hill (Jamie Baldwin) and Jenny Platt (Violet Wilson).

Bradley Walsh - who played former Underworld boss Danny Baldwin - is still due to return to the Cobbles at some point this year, although nothing has been confirmed.

Jack Duckworth is to have women competing for his affections in Coronation Street.

The character (Bill Tarmey) was heartbroken by the death of wife Vera (Liz Dawn) in January, but will have new love interests beating down his door in the coming months.

An ITV1 insider told The Sun: “Everyone is feeling desperately sorry for Jack but there are brighter skies ahead for him.

“The script writers are planning to introduce a couple of female characters into his life.”

However, although one woman will be at least ten years younger than Jack, she will face competition from Weatherfield veterans Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) and Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).

The source added: “The loss of Vera opens up all manner of strong storylines for Jack. There is a lot of scope for things he never would have dared get away with before.

“Bill will drop regularly in and out of the show and Jack’s turbulent life will allow just for that.”

Show bosses held a meeting last month to decide on a new flame for Jack following the departure of Liz Dawn after 34 years.

 Omg

Jack always was a bit of a player, so I think this storyline is quite fitting for him!

Tom Hudson has confirmed that he is leaving Coronation Street in an explosive storyline.

The actor's character Paul Clayton - Jack Duckworth's grandson - will flee Weatherfield after setting fire to Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) restaurant.

The chef has been trying to stop the ailing Valandros eatery going under but finally agrees to torch it for the insurance after Leanne promises to sleep with him.

However, a warrant is issued for his arrest when the plan goes wrong.

The 21-year-old told The Sun: “I’ve loved it on Corrie but I’ve got other things planned.”

But he indicated that he may return to the cobbles in the future, saying: "Paul’s just like his dad Terry and he’ll definitely return to Weatherfield to cause more trouble for his grandad.”

Talking about his exit, he added: “It’s a great storyline - exactly the kind of exit I hoped for.”

A show source said: “Leanne is Paul’s ideal woman. So when she offers him the chance to get into her knickers, he jumps at it.... [but] the police get involved and Paul is determined not to go to jail.”

Viewers will see Paul leave the Street to avoid capture in May. The news comes only days after the announcement that co-star Rob James-Collier (Liam Connor) will be leaving at the end of the year over "typecast fears".

Hudson recently announced his engagement to girlfriend Victoria Milne-Taylor.
