Posted October 14, 200717 yr I'm currently trying to get my hands on the complete uncut version (it's still not fully uncut here in the UK - about 5 minutes of the film have been cut) of "Cannibal Holocaust" - a truely disturbing, nasty, disgusting film in every sense. The director had to go to court to prove his film wasn't a snuff movie because the footage of the deaths of the characters looked so real. I've just bid on a copy on eBay actually...how sick am I? "The Driller Killer" I've seen in its complete, uncut form. "Cannibal Ferox" is also another I've seen (fully uncut), which is just horrid due to the real animal killings in the film. "I Spit On Your Grave" is obviously an infamous video nasty - I've only seen the cut version, and the rape scenes in that version were sick enough. Have you seen any video nasties, and if so, which?
October 14, 200717 yr Is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre one? I have seen that, it's not nice :(
October 14, 200717 yr Author Yep, when it was originally released it was branded a Video Nasty ..I totally forgot to mention it - yep, I've seen it. Such a classic film.

October 14, 200717 yr I thought the original was shit. I like it, but I much prefer the remake, it seems more real, I don't know why
October 14, 200717 yr Well, it depends what you consider a video nasty nowadays. Texas Chainsaw Massacre used to be THE famous video nasty back in the day but not for a decade or so and the same goes with lots of films. Of the films mentioned here I have seen the uncut Cannibal Holocaust (I actually have a copy of the uncut version on vhs), the uncut I Spit On Your Grave (again, I have the uncut version on vhs), and Cannibal Ferox. I am not quite sure whether I have seen Driller Killer but I'm not sure if you can count it as a video nasty anymore since it has been re-released as uncut version. Other films I have seen include such nasties as New York Ripper (Again, I have the uncut on vhs) and The Last House On the left (once again, I have the uncut on vhs). I used to be (and still am) a huge horoor films fan, I think I have something like 200-300 horror films including quite a few video nasties (including almost all Dario Argento's uncut Italian versions of his films with subtitles).
October 15, 200717 yr TBH, about 90% of these so-called "Video Nasties" are complete and utter sh!te....  Badly plotted, badly made, dreadfully acted, totally unconvincing make-up effects..... Of course there are some classics - "Cannibal Holocaust" maintains a fair amount of edge even by today's standards, and it was definitely one of the films that influenced the makers of "Blair Witch" in terms of the whole "found footage", fake documentary idea.... Dario Argento's films are pretty top as well, particularly stuff like "Suspiria" and "Deep Red", both of which were unavailable in their uncut forms for years in this country...

Gotta agree with you with most of that. Most of the "video nasties" gained their notoriety thanks to the conservative backlash of the 80s but thanks to the liberal wave starting from the late 90s most of the infamous video nasties are now available as uncut versions. Though the ones I mentioned above mostly are still cut versions (a few seconds at least missing from each). Most of the films aren't very good TBH BUT there are exceptions of course. Argento's older films are quite brilliant, just got the uncut dvd of Deep Red (and Michele Soavi's Stage Fright, very good also). I actually did like Trauma but after that it has been just downhill for Argento and I haven't even seem the last few films from him (Card Player etc.). I really hope that the concluding chapter for three mother's trilogy (Mother Of Tears) is gonna be better.

"Sleepless" wasn't too bad to be fair, but maybe it only seems better than it actually really is because the films before that like "Stendahl Syndrome" and "Phantom of the Opera" are such utter sh!te.... Not even Dario's gorgeous daughter Asia was able to save those... ;) I was a bit disappointed by "Trauma" tbh, it had its moments, but it just came over like Dario wanting to do a Hollywood-type film and it not really paying off for him... As for "The Card Player", you're really not missing much, a very bog-standard police thriller with precious few of Argento's stylistic flourishes.... -_-
October 18, 200717 yr I own Zombie Flesheaters 1 and 2, Zombie Nosh, Toolbox Murders, City Of The Living Dead and Driller Killer..... All of 'em $h!te.... if you want over the top gore watch Re-animator.... what aload of bollocks that is, and trust me when i say this.... a servered head licks out a woman FFS!!!!! Peter Jackson's Brain Dead has also got OTT gore in.... can't believe it's from the same man who did Lord of the Rings. Oh and it may not be a nasty but Scanners has a nice exploding head scene in it.
