Singles

Sliding straight into the top spot is Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls, knocking Fergie off her perch and setting Big Girls Don’t Cry back a place to No.2. Thnks Fr Th Mmrs rakes up its thirteenth week in the top 10, which also marks Fall Out Boy’s peak position at No.3, this is followed by Kanye West’s Stronger at No.4 and at No.5 is Shut Up And Drive by Rihanna. Moving up a place is Mika’s Love Today in at No.7 and standing strong for another week at No.9 is Avril Lavigne with When You’re Gone. Last but not least, rounding it all up at No.10 is the Foo Fighters with their new single, The Pretender.

BEAUTIFUL GIRLS - Sean Kingston

No.1

17 year old R&B sensation, Sean Kingston, ignites the ARIA Singles Chart with his debut single – Beautiful Girls. The track has already caught on like wild-fire with the rest of the world, as Beautiful Girls topped the US Billboard 100 chart for five consecutive weeks recently and is also sitting on top of the UK Chart this week. The track contains the bass line of Ben E. King’s 1961, top 50 hit – Stand By Me. Kingston’s self titled album debuted at No.21 this week on the ARIA Albums Chart.

THE PRETENDER - Foo Fighters

No.10

Founded by Dave Grohl (ex-Nirvana drummer) in 1995, the name Foo Fighters, derives from a World War II term which referred to a mysterious aerial phenomena. The band’s current line up consists of Grohl, Chris Shiflett (guitar), Nate Mendel (bass) and Taylor Hawkins (drums), who used to be Alanis Morrisette’s touring drummer. Grohl asked him if he knew any potential drummers for the band, and Hawkins suggested himself. The Pretender is the Foo Fighters’ third ARIA Top 10 single, it follows Best Of You (No.5 June ‘05) and This Is A Call (No.9 July ‘95). The new single is the first track to be lifted from the band’s new album – Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, which is out this weekend.

NO LONGER THERE - The Cat Empire No.12

This was followed up with her first Top 10 single, Absolutely Everybody (No.6 Dec. ’99), which has become some what an anthem to an array of different communities around the world. Absolutely Everybody was followed by two more Top 10 singles, Shine (No.4 May ’00) and The Power/Everytime I Close My Eyes (No.8 Jan. ’01).
