Singles

This week we see another debut take out the top. This time it comes with courtesy from our Delta Goodrem, who knocks off Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls (No.2), with her new track – In This Life. Stationed at No.4 is Kanye West with Stronger and new at No. 5 is The Way I Are by Timbaland. Also new to the Top 10 this week is Matchbox Twenty, with their first Top 10 hit in a decade with, How Far We’ve Come. The last two places go to Good Charlotte with Dance Floor Anthem at No.9 and last but not least, Ricki-Lee who falls a couple of places to No.10 with Can’t Touch It.

IN THIS LIFE - Delta Goodrem No.1

Australian songstress, Delta Goodrem makes a stunning return to the ARIA Singles chart with her eighth No. 1 single, In This Life. Previous No.1 hits include Born To Try (Dec. ’02), Lost Without You (Mar. ’03) and Predictable (Dec. ’03). Goodrem’s record is only beaten by Madonna and Kylie Minogue - who both have a total of nine No. 1 singles since 1983. At the age of 18, Goodrem was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a form of cancer and has since made a full recovery.

THE WAY I ARE - Timbaland Feat. Keri Hilson

No.5

Man of the hour or maybe even year – top notch producer and rapper Timbaland, has released a number of hit singles and featured in many more. The Way I Are is the third single to be lifted from Timbaland’s Shock Value album. The new single follows Give It To Me (No.16 Apr. ’07) and Throw It On Me (No.50 Sep. ’07). Before flying solo, Timbaland is renowned for featuring with a long list of artists including Nelly Furtado to Justin Timberland and The Pussycat Dolls to Missy Elliott.

HOW FAR WE'VE COME - Matchbox Twenty No.10

After a three year hiatus from the ARIA Singles Chart, Matchbox Twenty have joined forces once again to make a triumphant return to our charts. The last time we saw some action from the band was in 2004, with the single release, All I Need, which peaked at #32 in February that year. Matchbox Twenty rose to prominence in the late 90’s with a string of hit singles including Push (No.8 Dec. ’97), 3AM (No.31 Feb. ‘98), and Bent (No.19 May ‘00). How Far We’ve Come is the first single to be lifted from the band’s latest album, Exile on Mainstream. It has also been reported that Matchbox Twenty will be touring Australia early next year!

HEY THERE DELILAH - Plain White T's

No.14

Hailing from Chicago, the Plain White T’s consists of Tom Higgenson - vocals, Dave Tiriov- guitar, Mike Retondo – bass/vocals, De'Mar Hamilton – drums and Tim Lopez – guitar/vocals. The band was founded in 1997 by Higgenson and he recruited some high school friends to fill the outstanding positions. On the road to glory, the Plain White T’s have warmed the stage for bands AFI, Simple Plan and Jimmy Eat World. The band has also toured with the Van’s Warped Tour three times. Hey There Delilah is the band’s debut to the ARIA Singles Chart and was the band’s first No.1 in the US.

I GOT IT FROM MY MAMA - Will.I.Am

No.19

He is one quarter of hip-pop outfit, the Black Eyed Peas and is the second member to branch out for a solo project. Will.I.Am, born William James Adams Jr. releases his debut solo single. But the rapper/producer and budding fashion designer has enjoyed a string of hits. Not only as a member of the Black Eyed Peas but also as a featured artist or producer. Will.I.Am has produced tracks for fellow Pea, Fergie, as well as Pussycat Doll – Nicole Scherzinger and legendary guitarist – Carlos Santana. I Got It From My Mama is lifted from Will.I.Am’s new album, Songs About Girls.

Albums

Another milestone occurs this week – the Top 3 places are taken by debut albums. This is the first time since last October and only the third time in a decade. The top spot is taken by James Blunt’s All The Lost Souls, No.2 is Graduation by Kanye West and No.3 is Shannon Noll with Turn it Up. Last week’s title holder, 50 Cent moves to down to No.4 with Curtis. Fall Out Boy’s Infinity On High remains at No.5 and at No.6 is Paul Pott’s with One Chance. The Hairspray Soundtrack moves up a whopping 17 spots to No.7. The Waifs with Sun Dirt Water have moved from No.3 to No.8 and at No. 9 is another soundtrack – High School Musical 2. And finally, The Dutchess sets Fergie at No.10. A special mention goes to P!nk, whom we bid farewell to from the Top 10, for the first time in 62 weeks.

ALL THE LOST SOULS - James Blunt No.1

This is Blunt’s second album and follows his groundbreaking debut album, Back To Bedlam. Which itself was no fly by night – it spent 12 weeks at No.1 in 2005 and 2006. Some tracks you may remember from this album are You’re Beautiful (No.2 Nov. ‘05), Wisemen (No.11 May ‘06) and Goodbye My Lover (No.3 Jan. ‘06). His current album looks set to follow his debut’s success, with the first track 1973, debuting at No.17 earlier this month.

GRADUATION - Kanye West No.2

There has been much controversy surrounding the release of West's third album in the US, but Australian fans seem to be backing him all the way too. Plus, more recently, Late Registration, which peaked at No.14 in April last year.
