This in turn sees Delta Goodrem step back a place to No.2 with In This Life. Moving up two places is Timabaland, peaking at No.3 this week with The Way I Are and stationed at No.4 is Kanye West’s Stronger. New at No.5 is Hook Me Up by The Veronicas this week. Jumping a massive seven places is The Plain White T’s, making their first appearance in the Top 10 this week at No.7 with Hey There Delilah. Ricki-Lee’s Can’t Touch It steps it up a notch, moving up a place to No.9 and rounding it off at No.10 is Matchbox Twenty’s How Far We’ve Come. HOOK ME UP - The Veronicas No.5 Aussie twin sisters, The Veronicas, bring back twice the spice for their new single – Hook Me Up. Making their debut to our airwaves two years ago, 4Ever climbed its way up the ARIA Singles Chart and peaked at No.2 in October 2005, plus was accredited platinum. Two more Top 10 hits were to follow, Everything I’m Not (No.7 Jan. ’06) and When It All Falls Apart (No.7 Apr. ’06). Lisa and Jess have even launched their own clothing line at Target aptly titled, The Veronicas for Target. So now fans all over Australia can dress in true Veronicas style! THE TAKE OVER, THE BREAKS OVER - Fall Out Boy No.17 Recently playing a sold out concert last week in Sydney, Fall Out Boy rocked the house down with recent hits Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (No.3 Sep. ’07) and This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race (No.4 Mar. ’07). Both of which are taken from the band’s current platinum selling album, Infinity On High (No.4 Feb. ’07). In their short career span Fall Out Boy have collaborated with some of the biggest names in the business today, including – Timbaland, Kanye West and Gym Class Heroes. ONE MINUTE - Kelly Clarkson No.41 Due to hit our shores next year, the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, releases her second single taken from the album – My December (No.4 July ’07). 25 year old Clarkson won the heart of her fans with her debut single, Miss Independent, which peaked at No.3 in October 2003. This was closely followed by Low (No.11 Nov ’03) and The Trouble With Love Is (No.11 Feb. ’04). Since winning American Idol, Clarkson has achieved many accolades which include winning a handful awards, including two prestigious Grammy Awards. INCONSOLABLE - Backstreet Boys No.43 Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell (minus Kevin Richardson who left the group last year) join forces after a year long hiatus from our charts. The Backstreet Boys first made their presence felt on the ARIA Singles Chart back in 1996, with the release of their debut single, We Got It Goin’ On. The single peaked at No.74 in December that year. Since then Backstreet Boys have enjoyed a very successful career with seven of their singles reaching the ARIA Top 5 and one of which made it all the way to No.1 – Incomplete (June ’05). Previous Top 5 hits for the group include Larger Than Life (No.3 Oct. ’99), I Want It That Way (No.2 May ’99) and As Long As You Love Me (No.2 Jan. ’98). IN THE BASEMENT - Jade MacRae No.60 New Zealander, Jade MacRae took her first steps in the musical limelight singing at pubs and clubs around Sydney as well as in Mahlia Barnes’ band (daughter of Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes). This work eventually landed MacRae a spot as backup singer for Jimmy Barnes. MacRae also worked with other artists including Disco Montego, Pnau and Ian Pooley. MacRae eventually released her first single – You Make Me Weak (No.46 Nov. ’04). MacRae did not stop there and released a further two more tracks So Hot Right Now (No.18 Feb. ’05) and Superstar (Mo. 32 Sep. ’05). Down In The Basement is the first single to be lifted from MacRae’s forthcoming album, Get Me Home. Albums A few changes this week occur in the top 10. No.1 is the new album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace from the Foo Fighters, and No.2 is the new album So Many Nights from The Cat Empire. Down from No.1 to No.3 is James Blunt’s All The Lost Souls and up to No.4 from No.9 is the High School Musical 2 Soundtrack. Infinity On High by Fall Out Boy has rested at No.5 for another week, and Kanye West’s Graduation has fallen to No.6 and Shannon Noll is at No.7 with Turn It Up. The Hairspray Soundtrack has fallen a spot to No.9, meanwhile 50 Cent’s Curtis is at No.9 and lastly at No.10 is Fergie with The Dutchess. ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE - Foo Fighters No.1 This is the sixth album from the Foo Fighters, and their third number one album, the first being One By One,(No.1 Oct. ’02) and the second, In Your Honor (No.1 June ’05). For this album, the band has returned to the same producer who worked on their album, The Color and Shape (No.5 June ’97), Gil Norton. They have included on this album the song Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners which is an instrumental track written as a tribute to the miners that were involved in the collapse of the Beaconsfield mine in Tasmania in April 2006. Grohl wrote the song after he heard that one of the miners requested an Ipod loaded with Foo Fighter tracks while he was stuck in the mine. SO MANY NIGHTS - The Cat Empire No.2 All of The Cat Empire’s albums have done well on the ARIA charts – The Cat Empire (No.15 Feb. ’04), Two Shoes (No.1 Apr. ’05) and Cities (No.11 Apr. ’06). Cities also won the band a World Music ARIA award in 2006, while the first two albums both went double platinum. The Melbourne based band played at the Commonwealth Games in March 2006, jamming for over an hour while the athletes entered the stadium for the opening ceremony. IN OUR NATURE - Jose Gonzalez No.11 This is the second album from this Swedish-born musician, the first being Veneer (No.52 May ’06). You may have unknowingly heard music from his first album as several tracks were used in the TV series, The OC and One Tree Hill, as well as in a commercial for Sony. Before pursuing his music career, Gonzalez was studying to become a researcher in bio-chemistry. I'M DOIN' ALRIGHT - Adam Harvey No.38 Harvey is a country singer who performed his first gig at the Tamworth Country Music Festival at the tender age of 10 and was driving trucks in gold mines before he was discovered. This is his fifth album, some of his previous albums are Workin’ Overtime (No.48 Feb. ’02), The Cowboy Dreams (No.52 May. ’03) and Can’t Settle For Less (No.20 Jan. ’05). Harvey has won six Golden Guitars, including three for Best Male Vocalist. Of his music Harvey has remarked, "If people can come along to a show and feel good for a few hours, then I'm doing my job." INTO THE WILD - Soundtrack No.39 Into The Wild is a movie inspired by the true story of a man who travels around America after graduating from college. The movie is directed by Sean Penn who asked Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam to compose the music for this film. This is Vedder’s first solo album and features nine tracks written by the artist. GLORIOUS: THE SINGLES '97-'07 - Natalie Imbruglia No.40 Imbruglia’s music career has reached a milestone and so to celebrate this, an album collection of past singles has been created, along with five new tracks. Included on the album is Torn (No.2 Feb. ’98), Big Mistake (No.6 Jun. ’98), That Day (No.10 Nov. ’01), Shiver (No.19 Mar. ’05) and Wrong Impression (No.33 Feb. ’02). Imbruglia has also released three previous albums which are Left Of The Middle (No.1 Aug. ’98), White Lilies Island (No.3 Nov. ’01) and Counting Down The Days (No.12 Apr. ’05) SONGS ABOUT GIRLS - Will.I.Am No.58 Black Eyed Pea’s fans shouldn’t panic at the recent trend of the band’s members going solo – Will.I.Am has remarked about making this album, “I made the choice in high school to be with a crew and that’s never going to change. It was just really important for me to try some things out on my own, with my own artistry and imagination.” He has enlisted the help of Fergie and Snoop Dogg for help on tracks on this album. STEVE FORDE - Steve Forde No.59 Forde is known not only as a country singer/songwriter, but also as a farmer, husband and father. Forde has released several albums previously with his band, Steve Forde and the Flange. Forde also collaborated on the song, Spirit of the Bush (No.11 Jun. ’07) with Lee Kernaghan and Adam Brand. RISE OF THE TYRANT - Arch Enemy No.73 Arch Enemy were formed by lead guitarist Michael Amott, formerly of the band Carcass. The band also comprises of Angela Gossow – vocals, Daniel Erlandsson – drums, Sharlee D'Angelo – bass and Christopher Amott – guitar. SHINE - Joni Mitchell No.74 This is Mitchell’s first album of original music in ten years. Mitchell took a break as she wasn’t happy with the current state of the music industry, and instead decided to concentrate on her art. This album is her reaction, as well as reflection, on a few current issues, such as the war in Iraq, and the state of the environment. Included on the album is a new version of her hit, Big Yellow Taxi. THE REMINDER - Feist No.80 Leslie Feist is a Canadian solo artist who performs and records under her last name. She sings, plays guitar and piano. This is her third album, which she recorded in a big house just outside of Paris. Her music may already be familiar as her track, 1234 was used in the commercial for Ebay and for the Ipod Nano. SHEPHERD'S DOG - Iron And Wine No.98 Sam Beam is the solo artist behind the stage name Iron & Wine, originally from Texas. Beam discovered the name in a shop on a dietary supplement called ‘beef, iron and wine’, but decided to lose the beef. His sister Sarah Beam provides the backing vocals to some of his tracks as well as on the album. Of the album, Beam has said while not political, it is a reaction against the current US government. BRATZ - Soundtrack No.99 This is the movie of the Bratz dolls in real life. Included on the album is Ashlee Simpson with Invisible, Lifehouse with If This Is Goodbye and Black Eyed Peas with Express Yourself among others. Also included on the album are songs that happen within the movie that the characters themselves perform.
