Singles

They say you can’t keep a good guy down and that is true in Sean Kingston’s case as Beautiful Girls remains at No.1 again this week, as do the next two positions, Delta Goodrem’s In This Life and The Way I Are by Timbaland, stationed at No.2 and No.3 respectively. The Veronicas move up a place to No.4 with Hook Me Up, meanwhile Kanye West’s Stronger, falls a place to No.5. How Far We’ve Come takes Matchbox Twenty up two places to No.8 and Rihanna takes a dive to No.9 with Shut Up And Drive. Lastly, new at No.10 is the Rogue Traders with Don’t You Wanna Feel.

DON'T YOU WANNA FEEL - Rogue Traders No.10

Forming in 1989 by founding members James Ash and Steve Davis, the pair released their debut single, Need To Show Me in April 2002, but the track did not make an impact within the Top 100. Give In To Me was their first Top 100 single, peaking at #67 in November 2002 and One Of My Kind (No.10 Mar. ’03) was the band’s first Top 10 hit, which also won them an ARIA Award for Best Dance Release. In 2005 Rogue Traders revamped their look by enlisting Natalie Bassingthwaighte on vocals, Danny Spencer on guitar and Cameron McGlinchey on drums. James Ash remained on keyboards while Steve Davis took the backseat, but is still heavily involved in the writing process for the band. Don’t You Wanna Feel is the band’s fifth Top 10 single – others included are Voodoo Child (No.4 Aug. ’05), Way To Go! (No.7 Nov. ’05) and Watching You (No.5 Feb. ’06).

DO IT WELL - Jennifer Lopez

No.18

Making a superb return to the ARIA Singles chart after a two year hiatus, Jennifer Lopez releases her seventeenth ARIA Top 40 Single. J-Lo is currently sitting on an empire that includes her own signature fragrances, a clothing line, a restaurant, television producer and of course being a singer-songwriter / producer… Where does she find the time for all this? Lopez started off as a one time back-up dancer for New Kids On The Block and then for Janet Jackson (Lopez is featured in Jackson’s film That’s The Way Love Goes (No.1 May ‘93). After years in others shadows, Lopez made a stellar debut to the ARIA Singles Chart in 1999, gaining her first No.1 single with If You Had My Love. The single reached the top spot in July that year. Other hits for J-Lo include All I Have (No. 2 Apr. ’03), Get Right (No. Feb. ’05) and Waiting For Tonight (No.4 Jan. ’00).

SHINING STAR - The Noll Brothers No.32

Set to light the Australian country scene right up, singer-songwriters Adam and Damian Noll make their debut to the ARIA Singles Chart. Following the footsteps of younger brother Shannon Noll, The Noll Brothers are no rookies in the entertainment business. Already having over twenty years of experience, Adam and Damian have been playing in Shannon’s band for the past three years. Shinning Star was written by Damian, who also shares writing credits on Shannon’s debut album, That’s What I’m Talking About (No.1 Feb. ’04), for the track The Way That I Feel. The Noll Brothers are set to release their debut album in early 2008.

NOW THAT YOU GO IT - Gwen Stefani No.39

Trendsetter, fashionista, icon are just a few words that can some up the multi-talented Gwen Stefani. Now That You Got It is Stefani’s ninth solo ARIA Top 40 single, since her debut solo hit, What You Waiting For? (No. 1 Nov. ’04). The new single follows The Sweet Escape (No.2 Feb. ‘07), Wind It Up (No.5 Jan. ‘07) and 4 In The Morning (No.9 July ’07) all of which are lifted from Stefani’s current album, The Sweet Escape (No.2 Mar. ’07). Both tracks are found on Van Helden’s current album Ghettoblaster, which has yet to make an impact on the ARIA Albums Chart.

THE CREEPS - Freaks No.91

Founding members Luke Solomon and Justin Harris have been releasing top notch dance music for a little over a decade, but Australia is just getting their first taste now, after the release of The Creeps. Originally the track was an instrumental but was recently given a reworking and a vocal hook was added by Freak vocalist, Stella Attar. The Creeps has been doing the rounds of Aussie nightspots and has peaked at No.17 on the ARIA Club Chart.
