October 14, 200717 yr Chartifacts Source: ariacharts.com.au Singles Spending his fourth week at No.1 this week is Sean Kingston with Beautiful Girls, closely followed by Timbaland’s The Way I Are, up a place to No.2. New at No.3 is Britney Spears on the comeback with Gimme More. Heading further south is In This Life by Delta Goodrem at No.4 and The Veronicas’ Hook Me Up at No.5. Hey There Delilah by The Plain White T’s moves into No.6, meanwhile Kanye West drops two places leaving Stronger at No.7. Matchbox Twenty’s How Far We’ve Come and Don’t You Wanna Feel by Rogue Traders remains stationed at No.8 and No.10 respectively. GIMME MORE - Britney Spears No.3 The troubled star seems to be in a lot of hot water in her personal life, but Britney Spears still knows how to pack a punch on the charts. Gimme More is currently sitting atop of the Canadian Singles Chart and is Spears’ first Top 10 hit in more than two years. Spears’ last hit, Do Somethin’, peaked at No.8 in March 2005. Spears has enjoyed a very successful career, having had five No.1 singles which include, her very first single, …Baby One More Time (Feb. ’99), which spent nine weeks at the top, Oops… I Did It Again (May ’00), Me Against The Music (Nov. ’03) and Toxic (Mar. ’04), all of which spent two weeks at No.1 and finally, Everytime (June ’04) which spent one week atop of the ARIA Singles Chart. INTO THE NIGHT - Santana Feat. Chad Kroeger No.12 Legendary Latin rock guitarist, Carlos Santana revisits the ARIA Singles Chart this week with his new single, Into The Night, which features Nickleback front man, Chad Kroeger on vocals. Santana’s career spans over four decades. After having several minor hits in the 70’s and 80’s, Santana came storming back in the last 90’s, when he released Smooth with Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty fame. The single was Santana’s first Top 10 hit, peaking at No.4 in November 1999. Put Your Lights On featuring Everlast followed. The single peaked at No.32 in June 2000 and more recently Just Feel Better featuring Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. The single peaked at No.7 in February last year. IF YOU KEEP LOSING SLEEP - Silverchair No.16 Undoubtedly one of Australia’s biggest acts, Silverchair, releases the follow-up to one of this year’s biggest singles - Straight Lines (No.1 Mar. ’07). Both singles are lifted from the band’s current album Young Modern, which spent the whole of April at No.1 this year. Clocking up thirteen years in the business, Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies have fourteen Top 20 hits, not a bad feat, considering they started out at the tender age of fourteen. Silverchair’s hits include Tomorrow (No.1 Oct. ’94), Freak (No.1 Jan. ’97) and Anthem For The Year 2000 (No.3 Feb. ’99). DON'T HOLD BACK - The Potbelleez No.36 Originally hailing from Dublin in Ireland, Sydney DJs Dave Goode and Jonny Sonic are The Potbelleez. They made their debut to the ARIA Singles Chart in May this year with, In The Junkyard EP and it peaked at No.62. Don’t Hold Back recently held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Club Chart for two consecutive weeks, one better than Junkyard, which peaked at No.2. The pair are about to embark on an east coast tour for the next three months. It will include a stop off in Fiji and will see them play at over twenty different nightclubs from Melbourne to Queensland. GOODBYE - Sneaky Sound System No.56 Electro-pop dance outfit, Sneaky Sound System has gone from strength to strength the past couple of years after a string of hit single releases. Sneaky Sound System is primarily Black Angus, Miss Connie and MC Double D and is backed up by Peter Dolso on guitar, Jono Sloan on bass and Felix Bloxsom on drums. Making their debut on the ARIA Single Chart with Hip Hip Hooray, the single peaked at No.78 in February 2005. After the ball started rolling, there was no stopping Sneaky Sound System. I Love It was next up and peaked at No.25 in July last year. Pictures was not too far behind and peaked at No.19 the same year. A reported UFO sighting saw them be placed at No.15 in May this year. All the singles are lifted from Sneaky Sound System’s self titled album, which is sitting at No.37 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week. ABOUT YOU NOW - Sugababes No.64 British babes, Keisha Buchanan, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah are the Sugababes. Making their debut in 2001 with Overload (No.27 Apr. ’01) they had founding member Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy still in tow. The pair eventually left the Sugababes and were replaced by Range and Berrabah. About You Now is currently No.1 on the UK Charts and is the first track to be lifted from the Sugababes forthcoming album Change. Previous singles to chart well for the trio include – Push The Button (No.3 Jan. ’06), Round Round (No.13 Dec. ’02) and Ugly (No.13 Feb. ’06). Albums No.1 for another week is Matchbox Twenty with their album Exile On Mainstream, while at No.2 we have a new entry with Bruce Springsteen, showing he’s still got it with the new album Magic. No.3 has the Foo Fighter’s down from No.2 with Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, while remaining at No.4 for another week is James Blunt’s, All The Lost Souls. MAGIC - Bruce Springsteen No.2 This is the first recording from The E St Band and 58 year old, Springsteen in 5 years. The songs included on the album have already caused some controversy – the content is a reflection on the US involvement in the war in Iraq, as well as concerns held about America’s future. Springsteen has won 15 Grammy awards, and an Oscar for the song Streets Of Philadelphia (No.4 Apr. ’94) in the 32 years since his first hit Born To Run. Both as a solo artist and within bands, he has had many successes, including No.1 album Born in The U.S.A, Human Touch (No.3 Apr. ’92), Greatest Hits (No.1 Mar. ’95) accredited double platinum, The Rising (No.4 Aug. ‘02). HORIZONS - Parkway Drive No.6 This 5 piece hardcore band originally hails from Byron Bay, on the north coast of NSW. The last few years have seen the boys doing their fair share of touring, they were on both the Big Day Out and Homebake Tours in 2007, as well as the Vans Warped Tour. Their upcoming tour in Australia already has multiple sold-out dates. This current album was recorded in Boston, and is their second album. The first was Killing With A Smile (No.39 Sep. ’05). The bands members consist of Winston McCall – vocals, Luke Kilpatrick – guitar, Jeff Ling – guitar, Ben Gordon – drums and Jia O'Connor – bass. COMPLETE CLAPTON - Eric Clapton No.41 Along with this greatest hits collection, Clapton has also released an autobiography this month – Eric Clapton: The Autobiography. As Clapton’s book will attest, he has led a very full life. He has won 18 Grammy awards, and is the only person to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, as a solo artist, with the band Cream and the The Yardbirds. This double CD album includes hits from his entire career such as Tears In Heaven (No.37 Jun. ’92), Layla (No.7 Apr. ’93), Change The World (No.8 Oct. ’96), and Sunshine Of Your Love (No.31 Apr. ’06). TEN SONGS ABOUT LOVE - Eran James No.43 James relocated to New York from Melbourne after his mother passed away last year to record his second album. At the age of only 18, he has attracted the likes of producer Jay Newland (also producer to Missy Higgins and Norah Jones) and Tom Nichols (also producer to Celine Dion and Britney Spears) to produce this album. On the album, a number of songs were written about coping with missing his Mum and his determination and resolve to be a successful performer. RYANDAN - RyanDan No.62 RyanDan are identical twins from Canada – Ryan and Dan Kowarsky who are so alike, that in high school they both shared the part of Joseph in Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat – and no one was able to tell which brother was performing each night. The boys started performing at the age of 4, and grew up listening to a lot of operatic and classical music as their father was an opera singer. Their music is a combination of pop and classical music and the album was produced by Steve Anderson, who is one of Kylie Minogue’s long term musical collaborators. PICTURES - Katie Melua No.63 Melua had quite a year in 2006. She was the Guinness world record holder for the deepest concert – she held a concert 303 metres below sea level in the leg of a gas rig, she had a Dutch tulip named after her and she was awarded a World Music Award for the biggest selling British female artist.
