I love the song a great deal, but the video..it's so different from what I'm used to seeing from Celine..I'm not sure I really get what it has to do with the song, either. I'm not so keen on it. She looks great in the video, I can say that.
Same here. It def makes sense to me now

Interview with the video's director.

Ben: -Tell us about yourself, and how you became a director and for how long you've been doing this work. Who did you work with in the past...

Paul Boyd :I'm Scottish, 20 years directing, Im 40. I worked with many artists like Shania, sting, seal, jamiroquai etc. I made more than 150 videos.

-What was your role. Who came with the idea for the scenario?

I wrote the whole idea and directed, Celine like on my Shania work.

-The video is steering a polemic amongst the fans. Some think the video doesn't make sense at all. Could you enlighten us on the plot?

The plot is simple and meant to be interpreted in many ways. This is a vid meant to watched over and over, all the clues are in there, the answers are clear if u look for them. Basically, Celine is testing her own security.

-What was the budget for the video?

300 000 USD .

-What kind of camera did you use? Numeric/analogic? How long did the post production/montage took? Only a few of Celine's music videos are narrative. Most of them are shot in one day in front of a green screen. What were the demands on this shooting?

I used an Arriflex 435mm cam, I was the cinematographer also. The editing took two weeks. It was a 3 day shoot on location, very demanding with travel etc.

-Most of your work is made of music videos. Do you do other videos too?

I also make movies, Vicious Circle my debut will be at Sundance FF this year.

-On "i'm gonna getcha good" by Shania Twain, you already filmed a girl in leather suit running for her life on a motocyle. Is that a theme you like? ;-)

Girls on bikes, yeah thats a turn on!

-Apart the scenes on the motocycle, is the spy doing the narrative sequences (rocks in the desert, caesar's palace room, fighting scene...) a stand-in too?

Stand in was used, for the fighting and the riding.

-When the spy is sneaking into the room, she collects information. What kind of information is she supposed to take?

She steals her own identity to test her security.

-About the easter eggs on Celine's electronic idea, showing she lives on 555 blvd, 5 being her lucky number. Who came with this idea?

The number was 555 pure chance.

-In the middle of the video the spy is sitting on the chair of the surveillance room, why? How does it make sense?

The spy steals the disc with the sec-cam footage from Ceasers, this is all flashback.

-There's a shot showing the spy in front of Caesar's Palace logo. Was it only a funny reference to where celine sang for 5 years...or was it a pure product placement advertisment?

The hotel was chosen for location and we gave them good product placement as they were so generous with time/space etc.

-The video on youtube was watched more than 200 000 in a couple of days. How did the video sharing websites like Youtube or dailymition afffected your work? Most of the time a music video is dead after a couple of month. However they now are still available on the web. How do you feel toward this use of your videos, mashups, etc...

No affect to my career from this video, if it makes no#1 in many countries then we will see. I love experimenting and mash-ups are the cutting edge.

-Several music videos are deleted by the copyright holders (e.g Sony Columbia). What is your point of view on the subject? Do you consider music videos a free promotion tool that should be shared or not?

Video should be a free promo tool.

-At the end, celine says "What's next?". Is there a sequel planned to this music video?

Sequel not planned.

-If you had to find a good point and a bad point in this video, what would they be?

Good point the beauty and imagery, Bad point - the narrative is mysterious and deliberately inconclusive so some folks might not get it.

-On contrary of movies, only a few music videos have credits at the end. Is there anybody you'd like to thank?

I'd like to thank the stunt team Rich Hopkins and D-Mann and my art-director Benji Bamps, he kicked ass.

-What's next? What is the next project you're working on?

My next project is getting my movie ready for sundance festival in January.

Thank you for answering the questions. Good luck on your next projects

It's always nice to read the directors perspective.
