earlier in the year when I was still a student (:cry:) we had a whole lesson on MIA in my 'Media and Music' class...it was amazing, but I was the only one who had heard of her before the lesson :nocheer:

I don't blame them, I don't think I would know of her without Buzzjack. :blush: 'Jimmy' only made the top 70 and neither of her albums have had high sales.

 

I hope 'Paper Planes' does well, it would have helped if it was a bit sooner though because I'm guessing the advert will disappear after the film is released.

She's very 'underground'; where she's absolutely huge. It's a totally different scene to BJ. Less about album/single sales and more focus on live shows and coverage through blogs et al. I don't know anyone in real life who doesn't know her :o

I had a similar run with the song debuting in the first week in January on my Personal Chart & getting stuck behind Adele - Chasing Pavements, then Goldfrapp - A&E at #2.

Oh I'm sure she is, I only brought sales into this because that's how I would have heard about an artist before I joined Buzzjack. I guess it depends on the sort of person you are. I'm not really into the underground 'scene' - I admit that I'm a pretty lazy music fan and listen to commercial music 99% of the time, so M.I.A. was unknown to me until I joined this forum.

Ahaha no actually. :) I first heard 'Paper Planes' when it reached #10 in the Multichart, long before I 'met you' and I didn't like it at the time. I do remember you had a green M.I.A. signature around the time I first signed up though, so maybe you could be the person who made me aware of her existence, but not her music. -_- You didn't even get me into her did you? :mellow:

Funnily enough, I am calm and I can't find any evidence of severity in my posts. I just didn't, and still don't, see Mikal's first post towards as kidding with me. He must have thought there was an ounce of truth in it or he wouldn't bother saying anything. :unsure:
