Elvis Presley ..... is Johnny Cash

George Klein: We were enjoying ourselves when a young teenage girl entered the [train] car.

She came down the aisle and stopped next to Elvis, her eyes wide with disbelief.

'Johnny Cash!' she said in an excited whisper. We started laughing, but Elvis quickly hushed us and started talking to the girl. She told him how much she loved his - Johnny Cash's - records, and how she'd been to one of his - Cash's - shows. Finally, she asked. 'Johnny, would you sing me one of your songs?'

Elvis would never sing one of his own songs in that type of situation, but for this little Johnny Cash fan he dropped his voice to its lowest notes and started singing a few lines of 'Hey Porter', a song Cash had cut at Sun that seemed especially appropriate for a midnight train ride. The girl was thrilled, and even ended up with an autograph from Elvis, which read: 'Best Wishes, Johnny Cash'.

Elvis' 1956 Mystery Kisser Found! :cheer:

Former Memphis radio engineer Ron Brandon believes that he has finally found the famous 1956 'Elvis Mystery Kisser'. In 1956 it was Ron Brandon who recorded the famous Mississippi-Alabama Fair concert and so was well aware of the iconic photographs of Alfred Wertheimer including the ones taken in June 1956 at an Elvis concert in Richmond, Virginia. There were over forty of the photos of Elvis many of them featuring an attractive young lady. One or two of these photographs, in particular, have become quite famous.. photos of Elvis apparently attempting to kiss the young lady.

In 2010, earlier this year Brandon "stumbled upon" the woman who claimed to be the mystery kisser in the photos. Having lived in Richmond at one time, Brandon was intrigued enough follow through with a full interview - and was convinced without any reservation whatever, that she is the mystery kisser.

This led to a phone-call with Mr. Wertheimer, Ron Brandon and the mystery kisser - which in the end was sworn to confidentiality....

Go here to the fascinating story of how Ron Brandon finally tracked her down. An EIN exclusive.

Music legend Tom Jones talks about Elvis:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/tom_jones_elvis_presley2x.jpg

This week Tom Jones is to release a stunning collection of gospel, traditional and spiritual songs which critics are already hailing as one of his finest works. And the veteran sex bomb, who still has adoring female fans chucking their underwear on stage, says he is thrilled to be back making waves at an age when other stars are hanging up their microphones.

Elvis and I would sing gospel songs around the piano

When Sir Tom recorded songs for his new album Praise And Blame, the memories of his close friendship with buddy Elvis Presley came flooding back.

He revealed it was the King who first told him to sing gospel after they did a duet together in late night music sessions in his Las Vegas hotel suite in the 1970s.

"We'd stand around the piano and sing gospel songs together.

"Elvis said: 'Do they sing gospel in Wales?' I said 'yes but they are called hymns'. So Elvis replied: 'Why don't you record some of them?'

"I told him ... one day I will."

The superstar singers first met in 1965 when the Jones-boyo was invited on to the set of Elvis' movie Paradise Hawaiian Style. They became instant friends and remained so until the King's death in 1977.

Tom said: "It was my first year in the business. Elvis knew my records and wanted to meet me. I was very nervous.

"I walked into Paramount Studios in Hollywood and he waved across. I thought at first he was waving to somebody else. He walked over and told me how much he loved my voice. Elvis said: 'How the hell can you sing like that?'

"I said: 'Well, you're partly to blame. I listened to your records when I was a teenager'.

"Elvis was a great guy, very down to earth. I still miss him."

But the Welsh music legend reckons Elvis, who would have been 75 this year, would not still be recording.

He said: "Elvis loved being Elvis. I don't think he'd like growing old.

"He was a great looking guy and it was sad when he put on weight towards the end. That really bothered him.

"He felt life had caught up with him. He was messed up."

Linda Thompson - Interview Special:

Linda Thompson was romantically involved with Elvis in the 1970s and, except for Priscilla, was probably the most import partner that Elvis ever had. She lived with Elvis at Graceland for four and a half years, from 1972 to 1976. When Elvis was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital for eighteen days in November 1973, Thompson stayed with him in the same room. The hospital bent its rules and supplied her with a cot.

Elvis' close friends have always stated that without Linda Thompson by his side an earlier death was clear possibility.

As part of Elvis Week 2010, EIN presents an interview special with Linda Thompson - combining Alanna Nash's 2007 interview along with the longest interview Linda Thompson has ever done for CNN in 2002.

Go here for this fascinating double-interview.

Red West Interview:

Red West was one of Elvis' closest friends. He first met Elvis in High School and went on to work for Elvis as a bodyguard until 1976. Elvis and Red West became close friends when Red volunteered to help drive Elvis, Scotty Moore, Bill Black and DJ Fontana around the southern US states for their early tours of 1955-1956. Red West is also a talented composer and actor who still appears in award-winning movies.

In 1999 Red West was the main guest at the Elvis English Fan Club Convention where he opened up to fans like never before, revealing his true love for Elvis. It is certainly one of the longest and the best interviews with Red West - and at times devastatingly honest.

EIN now presents this fascinating interview for Elvis Week 2010.

At least Red West admidded he did it for the money.

Can't help it that I don't really like the guy, after so many years of being friends you don't write a book thats hurtful, no matter what happened between you and the other person, its just not right.

But thats just me ;)

I take your point, but, personally, I have a lot of time for Red. I honestly believe he genuinely cared for Elvis. One thing I particularly like about him, is that over the years, he has rarely talked about his time with Elvis, not made loads of money from his friendship with Elvis and has made a good career for himself in acting. I agree that the whole affair with the book has divided fans, but the important thing is, we all love Elvis

D.J Fontana Interview:

D.J Fontana was Elvis' drummer from 1955 to 1969. Elvis first met Fontana when he appeared at the 'Louisiana Hayride' on October 16, 1954. In fact Fontana became the first person to play drums on the 'Louisiana Hayride' doing so behind a curtain since percussion accompaniment to "real" Country Music was still frowned upon. After joining Elvis' band Fontana played drums on around fifty Elvis recording sessions between 1956 and 1968. After 1969 Fontana became a session musician in Nashville. Fontana also appeared in several Elvis movies such as Loving You and Jailhouse Rock.

Earlier this year D.J. Fontana was still on the road performing in Crowley, Louisiana where he talked about his time with The King.

And in 1998 DJ Fontana was interviewed by EIN contributor Arjan Deelen.

EIN now combines these fascinating interviews for Elvis Week 2010.

Had some extra time on my hands and went through some clips with interviews of Sonny and Red West, and I get where you are coming from. Read somewhere here that you met Sonny and how nice he was.

Maybe we just to quick to judge, a bad habit.

I know that Elvis fans are divided on those guys, but I have more time for the West cousins than some of the others. I honestly think, because we weren't there, we'll never know what happened. We can only read what others who were there say, but sometimes the stories differ, depending on who's saying it. Yes, Sonny was so nice and I was really happy to meet him. I'm actually reading his book at the moment

What are your thoughts about the book so far?

I've just finished the book tonight, Dileni, and I have to say I enjoyed it. Obviously, I know many of the 'stories and 'episodes' as I've read a few books about Elvis written by various people, but it's always good to read about it from a different perspective. I still stand by my feelings that the Wests are not as bad as some make out, but that is my opinion. Sonny does say that in retrospect, having Steve Dunleavy as the author was not good as he was something of a sensationalist. However Sonny stands by their reasons for writing the book and I do 'get' it. The last Elvis book I had read was Jerry Schilling's which I enjoyed, but I have to say that I prefered this one. I would definately recommend it

Thank you!

I now definitely will look for it, think have to order it,but thats okay :D

Army man recalls his time with Elvis:

When Bob Errant was serving in an Army tank battalion in Germany during the late 1950s, he'd occasionally miss the bus that would take him from his post back to his living quarters.

When that happened, a fellow soldier in his battalion who lived a few doors away would come up and offer him a ride. At the time, his buddy was one of the most celebrated soldiers in the Army, a guy who later became known for his dark hair slicked to a perfect pompadour and a crooner's voice: Elvis Presley.
